All the links to OS detail info seem have gone

Postby Lodgebarn » Sat May 28, 2016 7:36 am

I have just been looking for the detailed map for a YOSM Surface Block - Gringley C1SK7491. The link to the OS details page gets a 404 error and a quick check on a few others show they all get 404. Is there a different pattern now do you think of have they just all been removed?

There was a new passives pages a while back which seemed to break the links at the time, but one the URL route was updated (I presume?) it seemed to work again; certainly the few I've looked for recently have been present, but that one seems to have vanished. Irritating.

Going to https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/gps/legacy-control-information/search
gets to the search page

If I enter
SK7491
Seach By Stations
Number of Stations: 1

this returns the expected result
C1SK7491 Gringley Rivet SK748915 2WD Vehicle No Yes 0.88 km View Details..

The 'View Details' link points to:
https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/gps/legacy-control-information/C1SK7491

but if I select this it returns
https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/404.html

So even the links within the OS web site are broken.

I've just emailed them and had back a "we'll reply within 2 working days" auto-response.

I'll let you know what they say

The OS replied to say they've fixed the problem :)

But as far as I can see, the links are still broken :(

Have emailed again...

Today's reply from the OS:

Dear Ted,

I am sorry that the Passive station search service is still not working.

I have referred your enquiry back to our technical team for further investigation.
We will let you know their response by 15th June 2016.

Kind Regards,

Poor Kevin's had a hard day, judging by the tone of his reply.

A further update...

Dear Ted,

Thank you for your follow-up message, and I can only offer my sincere apologies that you have
not heard back from us sooner.

Looking into this, it remains unfixed, and the last update I can see is from a week ago advising
that our IS team were still looking into it. I can therefore only presume that there has proven
to be some complicated issue preventing the system from being got back up and running. I
have chased the team today for an update or resolution, so we will let you know when we
get this. I would put a tentative due date on this of a week’s time, Tuesday 21 June – I
would hope that they would be able to provide a solution sooner than this, but would
also be wary given the time that it has already taken.

Once again, I am very sorry both for the issue with the data being unavailable and with our
delay in getting back in touch with you. Your reference for this correspondence remains GV-203490.
Thank you for your patience with this matter and for bringing this to our attention.

Kind regards,

Ben Humphries

Latest from the OS; no progress but at least they haven't forgotten us :)

If we get to mid-July and they still haven't fixed access to the passive station database, then I propose
to ask if we can have a copy of the station records (text, sketches and photos) to put on TrigPointingUK.
I'm assuming that Teasel would be OK with the storage for this but it remains to be seen whether the
OS would raise copyright issues...

Dear Ted,

Further to our previous emails on the subject of problems affecting data from our passive GPS stations (https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/gps/le ... ation/list) unfortunately I must advise you that this has proven somewhat more complex than anticipated, and as such our IS team are still working on producing a patch or fix to resolve this.

Please accept my apologies again for any inconvenience caused. We will be in touch as soon as have any further update, which we are hopeful will be by Tuesday 12 July at the latest.

Kind regards,

Ben Humphries
