CATT Active Station (Catterick)

Postby ted » Tue Jul 05, 2016 1:12 pm

Another Active Station has shown up on http://www.bigf.ac.uk/news
2016-06-16 ONE new OSGB station added, Catterick (catt).

A bit of virtual digging to find details in
http://www.bigf.ac.uk/files/station_log ... B_BIGF.zip
Approximate Position (ITRF)
X coordinate (m) : 3722013.9
Y coordinate (m) : -111529.3
Z coordinate (m) : 5161180.5
Latitude (N is +) : +542221.87
Longitude (E is +) : -0014258.83

which converts to a grid ref 418525.941 497506.308
or 54.3727419489 N 1.7163414311 W

Pasting the latter into Google Maps indicates a location on the N side
of Kitchener Road whilst a satellite view indicates the E edge of some
brick buildings.

I'll pay a visit at some stage. A view of the active station from the street
should be possible although given the military nature of the location,
photography might be challenged.

Forgot to add that CATT is probably a replacement for the Active Station on the
northern edge of Richmond town centre. The latter seems to be offline according
to the BIGF stats. Unclear if it has been physically removed.
