SHAP Active Station

Postby ted » Wed Jan 27, 2016 7:19 pm

https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/gps/os-net-rinex-data/
lists an Active Station that I'd not noticed before and isn't (yet) listed
on TrigpointingUK

Its at Shap in Cumbria with Cartesian coordinates given as:
3707981.3417, -173903.9104, 5169628.4351

https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/gps/transformation converts this to
a more manageable 355724.555 512052.321

This places the station south of Shap village close to a minor road leading from the A6
to Wet Sleddale reservoir.

Finally, a virtual visit with https://www.google.co.uk/maps/
identifies a fenced compound; perhaps a weather station.
Towards the rear of the compound is a tripod, quite similar to
Leek Active Station http://trigpointing.uk/trig/7437

Theres what might be the active station on top of the tripod although it seems to
lack the usual dome shape.

Perhaps anyone passing through the area might like to check?

That's very interesting, Ted!

I have friends nearby and pass that way quite often. Hopefully I'll get a chance to look.
