Bridgeman's visit of 3 August http://trigpointing.uk/trig/6943
indicates that the Grough photo was of temporary shuttering. The
pillar now appears to have a smooth concrete top above a stone-built
base, giving it a somewhat odd appearance.

A little but unsettling, that profile. But better than it disappearing, no doubt.
