Porton (Boscombe Down) pillar

Postby Woodleywalker » Mon Aug 12, 2019 1:12 pm

Today I have walked the PROW from High Post northwards. The section of path that runs beside the airbase has a wide tall hedge obscuring the view of the airfield. It now has sections removed to ground level, the 5th cut away section reveals what I am sure is a Pillar easily visible about 10-15 yards inside the fence. The GR on my E-Trex from the fence is SU16213 38702. If anyone else is in that area can they please let me know that it is not my imagination.

Intriguing. Marked as destroyed by OS Feb 1944! Just possibly repositioned at edge of airfield; will alert FB.

There is certainly something there on Google Maps satelite view, but can't tell if it's a trig

Definitely something worth investigating anyway.
