Trip across with Ardnamurchan Charters to bag the Marilyn. Nice to find the bolt. Had a few hours on the Island then on the return trip Andy the boatman took us on a circuit of the Island pointing out geological and wildlife features. A very good deal for a tenner per person.

Parked at gate to West and followed footpath across and cut uphill on tractor track to hedgeline below the pillar and followed that upwards. Two gamekeepers came trotting up from Stonepit Farm along with shotguns and two friendly dogs. Once they realised I wasn't a poacher they advised it wasn't their land but saw no problem in my carrying on to the pillar and following the hedgeline across the top and then down. Quite friendly chaps. Not a bad view from the pillar which lies on its side with the base still in situ.

Walked up from Lochill. Met farmer in Landrover driving down. Gave me the thumbs up and when I told him I was another lunatic walking up to the trig pillar he smiled and said you're welcome. Walked up west side of wall only to find FB on opposite side. Didn't fancy jumping over as the other side was full of nettles. Had walked past a section where the wall had partially collapsed so went back down and through. Once back at pillar I had to gingerly trample down the nettles as I was wearing shorts.

Parked at gateway to far west of wood. Ample parking on left to keep gateway clear. Follow path through woodlands to reach clearing. Keep to the right (south) then after a short while the edge of the clearing dips out to the roadside (southwards) ignore this and cut across the gap. The pillar is then just a few metres in from the clearing. Bit battered by the elements and lots of cracks.

East ascent from footpath at top of Pontac Road. Steps led up to edge of wood. 214 I think. Trig was buried in heather. I used the GPS to find it. A hint, follow the edge of the field where the track brings you up to. Cross into the next field and carry on for approx 10 metres and the pillar will be off to your left.

Managed to get into tower on guided walk in park. However only up to first floor. The roof access is through those who own the aerial. I had a chat with the ranger about the bolt and he'd no idea. He suggested I contact the estate re access or getting someone to photo it. I will try this option.

Gave a score of 8 as although it was misty enjoyed climbing this mini mountain, superb. The trig had laminated adverts attached to it by cable-ties going around it. Seemed up to date, one advertising an upcoming local footie match. The other for the Kilchoan Hotel and amusing for us to see a picture of the fish and chips we had there earlier. Heartily recommended!

Climbed hill from east where bridge takes rough track over Whiteadder water. I left this track and followed animal tracks up by Writerspath Burn. However, I then found that a vehicle track not shown on the maps now goes all the way to the summit from just below Ling Rig. So a vehicle track now exists from the end of the tarmac road to the summit (and beyond!) The trig is breaking apart, lots of cracks and loads of damage and loose bits on the top face. Looks like it needs glueing together with something. Gave it an 8 as fantastic sunny views (also I sort of liked the wind farm.)

Electric fence appears to be not working (I touched it to test it) with string instead of wire. Spoke to an elderly local women on return to road who said she had lived there for years and had no idea a trig lurked in that hedge.

Has to be one of the easiest bags ever. Parked the transit (I was working) right next to the trig. Took a moment to realise it was the trig as it was so low down. Only had to push back some weeds and scrape an inch (25.4mm) of soil to read the FB. Damage to top of trig. Got my wheelchair buddy right up to this one. Nice views. This was the first time I had used the MyNGR app I'd downloaded for free on my Blackberry. Very impressed with the accuracy.

When parked in aerial layby the trig can be spotted through the hedge to the right of a tree. Walk down to crossroads and there is a a cattlegrid leading into the field about 20 metres to your left. There is a Caravan Club sign. Trig easily reached by following hedges round edge of field. Trig not spotted until almost at it. I attempted to clear encroaching grass and suchlike from around the toppled trig. Not much of a view from trig field (on my visit it was freshly ploughed) but fantastic views on approach.

To update previous hints. Park in opposite car park. Walk up path and around locked gate. Large hole in hedge on left. There is a vehicle sized track cut but this is a short dead end. Follow this then turn right at edge of forest and follow close to the treeline till infamous rock is found. The trig is visible from here just metres into the trees. Nice views on approach (I had a sunny day) and the woods are easy to penetrate. Marked this one as a 6 as approach so delightful and short.

Walked up from main road in late evening. Whilst putting boots on an MOD policeman pulled up to check what I was up to. Nice man, told him I was planning to go up to Lilla Howe tomorrow so he made a note so I wouldn't be hassled. Had a good chat about the Lyke Wake Walk which I did in 85. Once at trig and Howe I was convinced that I never visited the trig in the eighties. No way would I have gone off route “just to bag a trig.” Great dusk views across moors and towards Fylingdales. Must say I miss the infamous golfballs.

abulous trig. Great ascent track from Rest and be Thankful. Views out to Ailsa Craig and just as good in all directions. Met a trio from Edinburgh near the summit who said they had been up for the trig bag! Had intended to continue to The Brack but too much sunbathing, a laboured descent to the coll (my knees argh) and a desire to get a pub dinner meant this was put on hold for another day. The trig has a crack appearing approx half way up on the North side plus a little damage on the top.

Remains of pillar easily spotted near summit. Did the decent thing and moved a rock which someone had placed on top. Easy to see it hjad been a Vanessa. Hopefully the stumpy remains of this trig will remain. Very unlike the shattered remnants of the Mull Ben More trig. This was the first summit of the days 3 (Marilyn) Munros but alas the only one with a trig.

Really a Marilyn bagging day but with the bonus of a couple of Trigs.
