Lucky Tom to get to the top! Visited the Hardy Monument in July 2012 while walking from Sturminster Newton, Dorset to South Brent, Devon (having camped overnight at Winterborne Abbas). Didn't know it was a trig point. National Trust website says they hope to open the monument to visitors but are being delayed by access problems.

This small building is known locally as 'The Pimple'. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens as the entrance to a subterranean reservoir to provide water for houses nearby. It was built in 1914 and is now Grade II listed. It was re-roofed in the 1990's and in 2008 was offered for sale for around £10,000 although the only thing the owner can do with it is maintain it. Seats and far-ranging views.
