Lovely sunny cold day for this. Drove up to farm and met farmer in his tractor coming down the hill. He said it was fine for me to park and told me where so I wouldn’t interfere with his work. He also told me it was quite a way! And very ‘sheepy’ whilst glancing at Robbie in the boot. ‘Noted’ I said and as I intended to keep the wee boy on the lead it wasn’t a problem. Followed track up through gate in rutted sheep pasture which would be very muddy in warmer weather, today it was rock hard - a bonus. Lots of sheep and Robbie was very well behaved and didn’t take much notice of them. The young deer we met at the next gate didn’t even interest him, might have been another matter if he was off the lead! After gate took a beeline to the trig. Quite snowy and boggy with some very deep holes but managed to negotiate with no issues and soon at the trig, which has great views. Quite cold so gave the shelter a go - it was great very warm and we ate our lunch in comfort before heading off down the hill and back to the car. #3 2019

So I still had a couple of birthday vouchers left and asked if I could be dropped off for this trig on the way home from Aboyne. Started at Carol’s gate NJ391323 and then into the field which had long grass and lots of boggy snow covered holes, great. However soon replaced by a reasonable grazing field which I followed to the top corner to open field entrances to the trig field only having to climb one wooden fence. Trig is in a flattish heather covered top which means you can’t see it until almost upon it. Heather was quite deep and snowy but trig soon in sight. Then tried to drive round the back of the house and Gill nearly lost the bottom of her car. After walking behind the hedge trying to find a way into the field we decided that the only way was through the gate into the field at the back of the new house (as the field had a new barbed wire fence and an internal electric one). Gill wasn't too keen on approaching the house so we left this one on the to do list. Today Mr U2 and myself decided to take another approach driving up to Irelandbrae farm and asking for permission. After knocking the door the only answer came from the dog so we went into the field behind the farm up to the trigpoint. Sadly we couldn't hug the trig due to new fence (barbed) and electric fence in very close proximity and can advise that the only way to is via the gate behind the new house.

Parked at the end of the green lane opposite the road to the trigpoint. Walked up through the various building, lots of cars but no one about. Trig is located in horse pasture inside and electric fence. Had disconnectors so I was able to get in easily enough and no horses in the field at the moment. Trig still visible but a few plants started to encroach especially some nice nettles!
