In the area for the Iron Maiden concert and decided to bag a local trig. Took the road signed Wynford Farm off the A944 and parked in the car park by the pylon. Nice walk up to the summit through the heather on fairly decent paths. Great views over Aberdeen and the surrounding countryside from the trig if you ignore the conglomeration of masts on the summit. SPOOKY COINCIDENCE...just realised this is TP666...very apt considering we were seeing Iron Maiden that evening!!!

Good condition 2018-07-13 14:36 - TP2990 (East Lomond)

Walked to the summit via the rather vertiginous and eroded path from Craigmead, having summited West Lomond earlier in the day. Didn't linger long at the summit as there were too many loud picknickers there for my liking. Descended to the trig (rather weird that it wasn't on the summit!) and back to Craigmead via the masts.

Ascended via the relatively easy path from Craigmead and descended via the rather eroded path to the NW which is not recommended as it was rather tricky to negotiate. Weather was rather dour and hazy so we weren't able to appreciate the views from the trig. Went on to summit East Lomond afterwards.

Parked in the walkers car park at Broughton Place and headed up via John Buchan Way, Broomy Side and Green Law, following the fenceline to the trig...rather a rollercoaster of a walk, however the views from the top were very impressive. Coincidentally, we had an aerial view of this very range of hills from our plane heading back to Glasgow Airport on Saturday night! The trig was sadly looking a bit worse for wear on one of the bottom corners.

Bagged on a detour from a circular walk from Kirk Yetholm via Currburn during the heatwave; despite the heat it was a surprisingly easy climb up the Currburn side of the fenceline on the low level Pennine Way route. Great views across the Borders and Cheviot Hills.

Probably picked the wrong time of year to bag this one, as it involved treading carefully through long grass on field edges, trying to avoid nettles & thistles...had to access from neighbouring field as the field the trig was situated in was rather overgrown! Standard field edge trig but decent views across Jedburgh to the hills beyond.

Great to be back on the trig trail, after 6 months off due to hubby's broken ankle, and chose a good'un to resume. Nice and easy climb, following the path from the car park. Really chuffed to see the ponies on the summit and amazed at how placid they were. Traprain Law is a lovely wee hill with stunning views all round, and the Exmoor ponies are an added bonus, so a perfect 10 from me :-)

We followed the rocky path from the car park and were captivated by the stunning views across to Loch Lomond and the mountains beyond. Sadly after visiting the trig, things took a turn for the worse along the higher boggy path, when the hubby slipped on mud and fell, resulting in his ankle being fractured in three places. No more trigging for us for a while.

Parked at the Brundeanlaws road end and and headed up the track. Randomly, a little way along the track, we were met by two friendly dachshunds who walked alongside us as far as a cottage further along, which resulted in jovial banter with their owner, when she spotted her dogs being walked by "strange people"! Onward and upward...found the hill a tough wee climb which took my breath away. Fortunately, the cattle on the summit ran off down the hill as we approached. Appeared quite a horsy area, in fact we found a horseshoe up at the trig! I've always been fascinated by the hills in this area when we've driven along the A68 - the stunning views from the trig certainly did not disappoint and we'll certainly return for further exploration.

Good condition 2017-09-02 14:40 - TP1593 (Branxholmpark Hill)

Parked at the entrance to the woodland and headed east through the woodland and up the rather steep field, fortunately with no cattle resident. Found a gap in the dyke which required a quick "dive and duck" to reach the field containing the trig. Trig in decent condition, other than a tiny bit of graffiti on the top. Plenty of interest on the hill, which appears to have been a hill fort (complete with standing stone and wee stone circle) and gorgeous views down the valleys. Returned the same way as we arrived as there were cattle in the field immediately below the trig.

Followed same route as Borderer, from Keith Fergus's book, but as the weather was rather changeable we came off the hill and returned via Glensax (interesting dilapidated "Wild West" farmstead!). Super views down across Peebles towards the Pentlands from the trig, and the carpeting of heather on all the surrounding hills was an awesome sight.

Parked opposite Hummelknows road end and walked up track and through fields...a bit of a guddle this one, involving wading through long grass and thistles, bog hopping and fence climbing; however, on the bright side, none of the electric fences were live, we managed to avoid the cattle, and the rain stayed off! Trig located by a dyke but nice open views across to several notable Borders hills.

A nice easy to navigate "follow the fence" walk up from the Megget Stane. Great views in all directions from the summit. Loved the red sandstone chips on the trig. Walked back down via Porridge Cairn and an unnamed yet very prominent rocky cairn. When we returned to the fenceline path I managed to tread in a bog - both feet right in over the boots, silly me! Other than the bog snorkelling, a good'un for my 90th trig in the bag :-)

Parked safely on grass verge on minor road round the corner from the farm, across from the track. Headed along the track, up the field margins and through the gate to reach Sweethope Hill, thus avoiding the cattle. An interesting wee hill, with the fort and stunning panoramic views across the Borders, even on a dull day. Unfortunately the weather closed in after we reached the summit so we didn't linger long, and got totally drookit on the way back to the car! Another fantastic location that trigpointing has taken us to, and we'll most definitely return in more favourable weather conditions :)

Our first mountain summited (yay!), blustery conditions making it a challenge to stay upright at times on the way up, and we didn't linger long at the trig due to the wind chill! Such a shame to see a trigpoint in such a a sorry state, can imagine it could collapse completely before too long. Couldn't see much from the summit due to the haze, but the sun typically came out soon after we left the summit and we were rewarded with some views on the descent.

Tried to follow gerryu2's route, however there were was a succession of pairs of metal posts on the right hand side of the road so we just headed into then woods and used Viewranger to navigate to the trig - no issues with loss of GPS signal for us. Parked at Pennymuir and walked down Dere Street via Towford and uphill as far as the concrete shelter and then following the grassy track to the summit of Langside Law. Super panoramic views in all directions from the trig, which was slightly damaged on one of the top corners but otherwise in good nick. Made a circular walk out of it, following the track along to Buchtrig (where we encountered a very friendly farmer who complimented us on being considerate walkers) and then following the road back up to Pennymuir. An altogether pleasant walk with easy navigation along grassy paths, walker-friendly gates and no barbed wire or electric fencing to circumnavigate, which points I complimented said friendly farmer on! :)

Parked on the verge just before the gate across the road to Todrig, then realised we could've driven further along. Easy navigation up to the trig from Todrig via a well defined grass track. Decent views from up top, however the general area was a bit too desolate for my liking, as well as being rather eerie with all derelict residences in the vicinity, and the bones strewn around (including a sheep's skull!). Our 75th trigpoint in the bag, and glorious sunny day for it :)

Parked in the lay-by down the minor road a bit from Whitehaugh and headed up the track. Was trying to work out which side of the dyke to go up, when the hubby rather unhelpfully decided to doubt my map reading skills and announce we were heading in the wrong direction!! After an unnecessary climb of the hill opposite, I took great pleasure in telling him he was wrong and we turned tail back up to the trig, by which time the rain had come on, grrr. Fab views from the trig even though it was rather mizzly. Shame the trig isn't looking so white nowadays though...and och we forgot to look for the wee cross :o

Nearly didn't do this one as hubby was stressing about where to park, and it didn't help matters that the hunt were in the vicinity. After nearly giving up, we eventually parked on the verge at Linton Bankhead and walked down to the War Memorial. Followed the track all the way to the mast...no issues with cattle, electric fences or dogs but it was rather a mud bath! Unfortunately the weather closed in when we were almost at the summit so we didn't get a chance to appreciate those stunning views of the Cheviots. Returned to the car via the same route, battling through the mud amidst sleety hail and rain...got absolutely soaked through, and of course the sun had the cheek to come out as soon as we got back to the car!!!

Bagged the trig by making a detour from the Earlston Paths Huntshaw circular walk. After being thwarted by barbed wire at the bottom of the neighbouring field, we ended up walking along the top edge of the field and nearly walked past the trig, as it was so overgrown with gorse! Restricted views due to the neighbouring woods, but nice open view across the fields to the Eildons through the mist.

Parked by the plantation on the minor road to the south west of trig, louped the gate and tiptoed through the plantation, hopping over the "horses' doovers" and boggy patches, locating the trig in the corner of the field. We encountered a small flock of very friendly sheep, who were more than happy to partake in selfies at the trig :) Decent views in all directions for such a low-lying trig.

Parked at the Midlothian Ski Centre (shame it was closed today) and did a lovely circular walk taking in Caerketton, Allermuir and Capelaw Hills. Although the wind chill was biting on the summit, we stood for a while taking in the stunning views across Edinburgh and beyond, including the new Queensferry Crossing. Our first venture into the Pentlands and we were very impressed with the walking and scenery, so we'll be back to explore further, hopefully when it's a wee bit warmer!

Good condition 2016-12-27 13:47 - TP1008 (Bank Hill)

Parked along the road from the junction to the south and walked straight up the hill, then discovered we were on the wrong side of the dyke...then discovered the GOML landowner had gone rather gung-ho with the barbed wire. There was a walking access gate facing us, however it was barricaded off on both sides with secured metal gates and barbed wire. We walked down the dyke side to see if there was an alternative means of access and found another walking access gate, this time with a line of thigh-high barbed wire at both sides (see photo). We were determined to get through, which necessitated in crawling under the barb and climbing over the gate (which had also been secured shut). Complete arrogance on the part of the landowner as there was no livestock in any of the fields! Anyhoo, onto the trig...decent views down to Cessford Castle and across to Hare Law, where we'd been earlier in the day. We didn't linger long at the trig as we had the return via the assault course to look forward to!

Parked at the cattle grid at Whitton Edge and walked up Dere Street then cut across a couple of young forestry plantations, their associated ditches keeping us on our toes! It was a glorious morning and the views across to the Cheviots were absolutely stunning. We decided to make a circular walk out of it, but that wasn't one of our better decisions as it involved a rather laborious trek across further forestry plantations, clearfell sites, long grass and bogs!

This was our 2nd attempt at bagging this one...took the wrong track the last time and ended up in the pig farm lol :o . Parked at the viewpoint and went along the track down the road from the viewpoint this time and along the field edge to the trig. Nice views across Berwick and beyond. An absolutely stunning morning but we didn't linger long as it was rather chilly! Nice to get this one in the bag at last anyhow :) (Trig condition is slightly damaged due to a small chunk which has broken away from one of the edges)

Approached along the ridge from Dabshead Hill, up the track and onto the moor via the grassy slopes by the grouse butts. These moorlands are a bit too bleak for my liking....we didn't linger long anyhow as it turned rather chilly when we were up there. We returned to Burncastle via the main track.

Parked at Burncastle and took the easy way up, approaching the trig from the east. To echo a previous post, we found the locals to be very friendly; the hunt were also in the vicinity but we managed to keep out of each other's way! Loved the leaning standing stone next to the trig, and the fab views all around. It was such a lovely morning we decided to venture on to Constable Hill, paying our respects to Pip on the way.

Parked in the large layby on the Lauder to Stow road and followed the path and dyke up to the sheepfold. Ended up on the wrong side of the dyke and had to loup over it! Trig was looking a wee bit forlorn in among the long grass, but nicely sheltered from the elements. We decided to make a walk out of it and carried on along the track to join the SUW back into Lauder, returning to the car via the Lauder Burn. A lovely walk showing off the pretty autumn colours; our first walk in Lauderdale and we were impressed with the scenery. Trigpointing has led us to explore some fantastic locations :)

Nice easy access - parked at the Cliftoncote road end, straight up the track, then up by the drystone dyke and through the gate at the top and followed paths through the heather to the summit. We reached the summit just in time to bag the trig and take in the stunning views before the mist rolled in!

Our second Edinburgh trig today. Parked across the road from the arch on Braid Road and straight up the path to the trig. Lovely to see a gleaming, freshly painted trig - reckon it must be the most pristine of the 57 we've visited so far :) Stunning views over the city and beyond and a very detailed toposcope. It's been pure bliss exploring these hills today, havens of tranquility in the middle of the city, and thankfully a lot more civilised than Arthur's Seat!

Parked at Old Northouse and walked along the forest road, a tough boggy slog up the forest edge then straight up the steep side of the hill. Skelfhill Pen is an interesting wee peak and we were very impressed with the panoramic views from the summit. Descended over the other side of the hill, a lovely little ridge with fantastic views. Decided to go back down the eastern edge of the forest, which was equally as boggy. Crossed the watercourse at the gap and re-entered the forest, battling with knee-deep bracken and heather and then having a struggle circumnavigating Alderybar Cottage and adjacent quarry before eventually rejoining the forest road, hooray! :)

Walked up the track from Barns...rather a bootcamp of a trek, which was apt considering the history of a site. Although the hill is a sharp peak, the ascent was easy. The scenery round about is a bit too desolate for my liking, however the views from the summit were excellent, helped along by lovely sunny weather...although it was blowing a howling gale up top!

Walked up the path from the car park - a surprisingly easy climb for a hill that appears to be rather steep from the distance. Plenty of photographic interest with the ruin and replica whalebones in addition to the trig, and absolutely stunning views in all directions. Lovely to see another gleaming white trig and I loved the "Live for the Moment" message, even if it does happen to be graffiti :) Well worth the journey up from the Borders to get this one in the bag.

Parked in Morebattle and walked up through the fields from Morebattle Mains, circumnavigating bulls and a double electric fence along the way. Turned into a gorgeous afternoon and the views from the trig were very impressive. Decided to go back over the other side but went through the woods and ended up in the grounds of Corbet House, oops! Managed to get out along the drive and out onto the road back to Morebattle...noticed a large number of cattle on the lower slopes of the hill on the way past so were relieved we hadn't returned that way.

Parked in the Tilhill Forestry Ladhopemuir car park and entered field at opposite side of road. Took a wee bit of trial and error til we found our way - luckily we picked a friendly herd of cattle to walk past! It was quite a slog through sodden long grass, bracken and heather but well worth it for the views from the trig. The last of our Gala trigs bagged and I reckon we left the best til last! We took a more direct route back to the road, avoiding the long grass and bracken (and a further few herds of cattle!)

Parked down the lane and walked through a jungle of a bridle path to get to the trig but the views were decent for not a lot of climbing. My first "decorated" trig - loved the red roses.
