The drive from the last trig (TP4603) was rather exciting along very narrow and twisty lanes. Only came across one milk tanker coming the other way. Finally parked in Kencot Walk and walked up the path at the end of the road. Very soggy underfoot. Clouds looked threatening but it stayed dry. I could see that a motorbike had gone up the FP and churned up the mud. Over a metal style and then across an empty grassy field with some signs of cow poo but no cows. Trig is just after another open gate below the FP/farmers track. Its not at the top of the hill but does have good views over Bristol. Last one for today as the days are short and want to get home in the light. Still its good to feel that I have ticked off a couple of the remaining Bristol ones. Only 5 more to do around here. Looks like I will only do 33 this year but then I have had other things that were more important and I did do the Birmingham Canal Network in my spare time instead!

After a rather big Sunday lunch at a friends I thought I would try and bag some trigs to walk it off. There is a quite handy parking place between Norton Malreward and the T junction by the start of the FP. Its not too steep to walk up but the ground was very wet and slippy. Trig is easily accessed because it is in a big empty grassy field. Good views all round. Watched some planes coming in to land at Bristol Airport.

Great early morning cycle from Clevedon. The Strawberry Line ex-railway line cycle track was lovely. Got slightly lost trying to find the coast path at Woodspring Priory but a very friendly farmer did say I was on privet property but did put me right. Even told me a bit of the history of the track I was on. It use to go to an old army base. Trig has great views all over the Severn. It even has a special small stone on it. I will let you discover what it says... A lovely Trig to visit on a sunny day.

Short cycle up a hilly road to get to this first trig of the day. Plenty of dogs walking with their owner on the way up the grassy hillock to get to it. Easy to find and not in bad condition, even if it looked like it was painted purple not that long ago.

Parked bike just off Woodend Ln. Spoke to farmer who was wondering what I was doing. He said that the old estate gates back in 1948 were much better then the new cheep ones they have put in. Easy walk up FP and then hop over fence and flat walk to trig. Its slightly leaning but otherwise it is in good condition. Walked back to bike and the cycled back to Glos. 57miles done to bag these 3 Trigs.

After bribing the other half with an Ice-cream at the Wolds Wildlife Park Open Day she agreed to visit this Trig. It is actually very easy to just drive right up to it, so she got to touch her first ever Trig Point. So I rate it 7 out of 10 because of its disabled accessibility. As there are notices all over the place saying, "you are being watched", I didnt hunt round to see the other two sites of now missing, trigs.

Because I left along Metheringham Fen Ln from Tanvats (the last trig) I think I went the long way around to get to this one. But it is a lovely day and I even went over a railway line where you have to phone the signaler to check it is safe. Just before you get to Billinghay there is a FP sign that takes yo straight to the Trig, behind some houses on a fence line between two fields. Trig is all in good order.

I liked the cycle along the Witham Bank Ln next to the canal. There was a sign saying that the road ahead was closed but you could get by if you are on a bike. After checking what side of the ditch I the Trig was on I started the walk along the bank. I have to lift the bike over several fences that seem to have no purpose with "Danger sharp edges" signs on them. Trig has crack around the bottom but otherwise is in good shape. Decided to go back a long the field edge to get to Martin South Drove as i didnt fancy lifting the bike over those fences again. Got a puncture just before I got to the road but was able to make it to the garage in Martin Dales before calling of the Cycle Recover Van for the other half to come and collect me and take me back to the cottage for a spot of lunch. Woodhall Spa was heaving with people, glad we went straight back as I didnt fancy trying to get a wheelchair around these crowds. This now ends me getting all the trigs around here so we will have to find another place to stay next time.

Good cycle along the disused railway line into Woodhall Spa. Nice to see everyone starting the day by getting the shops open. Should be a bizzy one as the weather is looking lovely. Out the other side and over the bridge to Martin Dales and then right follow the road to Blankney Dales. Past a house with some barky dogs, along a ROW and onto the BW at the top of the drainage ditch bank. You can see where in a couple of months time that the nettles will have taken over, but at the moment they are not too bad. Path is very uneven so had to walk the bike along it. Passing by a bridge over the ditch and a couple of gates I found the Trig in good order. Decided not to go back the way I came so went over the bridge and around the side of several houses before getting on Metheringham Fen Ln. Use this Ln to get to this Trig as it is the closes and best way avoiding most of the nettles!

As we were out this way in the van today, I wanted to bag this orphan Trig because it is a long way away from the others around here and I never got to cycle out to it back in 2016. I persuaded the other half to go by saying that this Trig has the best facilities of any I have visited so far; Parking right by it, a toilet block and a cafe! So she was happy. Bit of a strange place for one though. Being at the bottom of a sea defense bank. Maybe the bank has been built up after it was installed? The Trig is looking very nice in its white paint and with a plaque explaining all about it. Good work Arthur Davenport for adopting it.

Great cycle through The Wolds to this one. Even took off my coat as it was getting that warm. Just off the road up a hedge. Only real problem was that my front tyre went down. After taking to tyre off I found about 7 punctures in the tube. Its all the blackthorn cutting all over the place that did it. I ended up calling up the other half to come and rescue me. Bluestone Heath road is very long and she went the wrong way at first from off the A16. But finally she did find me.

Another easy to cycle to trig. After leaving the main road I went up Red Hill and then took path behind the red gates. I met a bloke with a lab called Max so it seems to be a well used path with the public. Went past the tower and trig is by the side of the track. All looks well with it. Went back the same way I came to get to big road and past Max again. This is my PAL Trig as its number 625 (same as lines in old time analogue PAL TV transmission system)

We are up here over Easter, so i thought it would be a good idea to bag some more trigs this morning as the other half wanted a lie in. Cycled through the mist to this first TP. Abandoned bike by the side of the road and when up to top of the bank, field side, of the pit. there is a tree half way down pit side and the Trig is under it. On way back to bike I saw that a van with workmen in it had stopped and were about to "tidy up" my bike. I told them it was mine and to leave it. They asked me what I was doing and said "Cant I have a pee without someone trying to nick my bike". They were all smiles and drove off. Glad I wasnt any longer it I might have lost it.

Not a bad cycle up to this trig. Even if a police car did stop me to see what I was doing on the side of the A34 near the M6. I said that I was just checking that I wasnt going to end up on the Motorway! They were quite happy to point me in the right direction. I can tell that it is early in the cycling year as I could feel my legs moaning as i climbed up to the top of the Barr Beacon. Nice War Memorial that was built in 2014. There is a gap in the fence directly north of this that I could squeeze through. Quite windy up here. Trig is in good condition. I enjoyed whizzing down the hill after the visit. I then went along the canal network all the way back to the QE. Its a lovely Victorian side of Brum hidden under the motorway system and even the BT tower. I did get slower towards the end of this 27Mile ride, but it did feel a lot longer. Near the QE you climb up some steps from the canal path and you end up by the rail station. Short trip back to the Grove Park and glad to be back in the car and warm!

I had more luck with this, the second trig of the new year. There is a gate just off Park Ln where the brickwork has a gap that I could squeeze through. Though there is quite a lot of junk by the gate. Like a dead PC and cable casing that has been stripped of its copper wire. I was aware there might be needles lying around! It was a short walk along the edge of a golf course to the trig. It looks very well cared for with a bright white coat of fresh paint.

Mr N did not want to be left in the car, again, so I took him with me to this, the last trig of the day. Easy to find as it just off a very well trodden path by another round pillar with a seating around it. Mr N took no interest in the Trig at all. There is still a little pocket of trigs left around Bristol that I need to bag but they will have to wait until next year now. Next week we are in North Devon so I might see if I can get Mr N interested in tracking down some around there.

When I got to the gate, it was open and no one was in the gate house, so cycled right up to it, without any problems. Not many cars in here either. It seems to have sunk a bit. No views. Coming down the hill the other side was good as its steeper. And with this Trig I have now finished all of the ones centred on Reading. Good thing I am moving in a week then! When I got to the prison I cycled up through the carpark and left the bike by the fence line with an old gate and lump of concrete next to it. You can climb over the fence and then gate but the better way is to follow the FP past a farm shed and over 3 stiles and after about 200m there is a open gateway and the Trig is right in front of you in a field full of sheep. Mostly went along road to got to this one. Only when i got to Marepond Farm did I go onto BWs. Again rather difficult to cycle along because of the sandy soil. Trig is made out of rocks. and has damage on one corner but that dosent spoil it much as it has good views and a big stone sofa in memory of Octavia Hill. She was a Victorian advocate for social housing and had nothing to do with Skoda. Coming back down was difficult as well as some of the BWs had been washed away. Then back to car as this was planed to be my last for today.

Coming down the BW from Hindhead was rather hard work. Very bumpy. Went through Haslemere and along A286 before turning off to go up Grayswood hill. I saw loads of people walking to catch the train to work. This is def commuter belt. Parked bike by gate with unfriendly sign on it, opposite FP. Climbed over gate and followed track up hill. Past a place where someone had burnt garden trimmings and there were tools there. No one was about so continued up hill. Through a very loose barbwire fence and strolled up hill to trig. It has decking put round it. This would make taking a picture of the FB difficult but my phone fitted through it. Good views. Quick retreat the way I had come as I didnt want to come across any locals.

Went up BW from last Trig point that roughly follows electric pylons. In places it was like a dry stream bed and rather difficult to cycle up. had to get off and push in places. At Devils Punchbowl carpark there is a NT donation box that is pretending to be a Trig. Pictured. I was glad the last bit was on tarmac and flat. The Trig has got a toposcope on top of it and a rather big NT plaque embedded in it. Great views.

Trig is on raised concrete domed base and has rust coming out of it that has discoloured the FB.

Easy cycle to this Trig. It is an abandoned carpark. And isnt an OS trig as it doesnt have a FB and its design is a little different. Nice coming down the hill from last Trig (Woolbeding). Well, until I had to go through a houses yard to follow FP to Trig. There I was met by two Labradors who were the most barky I have ever know. The two Labs I have at work hardly bark at all. It does make it feel like you are trespassing, but that is where the FP takes you!. At least the Labs had waggy tails. Trig has good views once I got there. And then had to suffer the dogs again when leaving.

Then had problems getting out of the farm estate as the road I followed ended with a locked gate. I had to go back the way I came in to escape and get back onto the road.

"Unexpected Trig in the Bagging area", I got for this one, when I tried to look it up on my personal Trig Database. Still a nice bonus (bagging 10 not 9 today). Getting to it wasn't too bad. Had to hop over a fence but the fields around the trig were all set to grass so easy to walk across. Getting back onto a road was fun and i ended up walking around a couple of fields because they had crops in them. At location I walked up to some farm hands in a makeshift shed and asked if they knew where the Trig was. They weren't surprised by me being there but didn't have a clue what I was on about. I found it about 10m away, by the port-a-loo. All in order but not very exciting. Now to find the car. Need the A/C on a day like today!

Good thing I have gloves and some secateurs. I was worried about getting to the next Trig before the sun set so only cleared enough to get a shot of the FB. I think because the weather was so nice everyone was in a good mood. If only cycling in London was always this nice! Up FP from junction of Beverley Gn and Vernon Dr. The PF has fencing both sides to stop people walking on to Stanmore Golf Club land but there are open gates both sides of the Trig up can go through to get to Trig. I met some golfers who were going to Tee off next to Trig and they weren't bothered by me being there at all. Just as long as I dont push my bike across the fairway. So I thought I would have a cycle along the Grand Union Canal and pick up some Trigs on the way. Dumped Car in Upton Court Car Park and made my way to the Start of the Slough branch end of the Canal. Because of the early hour the sun was straight in my eyes and I could hardly see at times. Took Padidngton arm and left Canal at Marnham Fields. Made way though Northala Fields and used underpass to get to McDonalds then down A40 slip road, and turn up footpath just after foot bridge. I went up and down the FP looking through the security fencing to see if I could see any sight of the Trig but couldnt. Ok this one has been moved and the Trigpointing database needs to be updated. After spending about 10 mins trying to find it, I read the other entries and saw that it was moved about 0.3miles west along the road. See my updated map. Once I knew where to find it, it was easy, as it is road side, next to a lump of concrete blocking a field entry.

To start off with, I had to get past a "trapped" heard of cows that suddenly went past me crashing through some bushes. It was like a stampede! The BW near Yews Farm was very slippery from rain. After skidding about 4 times I ended up walking along it, until I found a better part for cycling. I didnt want to fall off and damage my leg like last year. Legs are feeling it now. Finally made it to trig after going straight past it, as its not at top of hill. Trig is average one but glad its the last one for today. <br>Now to get back to car in Whiteparish. Started off fine as the track got better as it went down hill into Downton. Glad for the rest as I let gravity do the work. As I started up hill out of town it started to rain. Not small stuff, it was heavy. Legs were complaining. But at least I was on my way back! Then towards top of hill at Redlynch I got a puncture. Found a covered bus stop and started to change inner tube. A bloke turned up to catch bus and wanted to know what I was doing. It was wet, and bike was muddy and I was not going to go out in rain to fix it! Soon had bike fixed but noticed my phone was buzzing. Even if it is IP65 rated water had got in headphone jack as was making it want headphones to be plugged in. Fingers, well everything was now muddy or wet. So made using phone hard to get best way to get back. Glad I had only 3 miles to car! Another bloke turned up in a big water proof coat who said I looked like a drowned rat. And still it peed it down. The rain wasnt cold but now this trip had turned into an ordeal. I was very glad to see the car. I programed phone to get me home and it reset its self. Dont tell me that the rain has broken it! I was able to get it working again and made it onto A30 before it crashed again and knew how to get back from there. Once home I was able to dry out phone and it is working again. Google drive was broken by windows update so I couldnt get photos of trip until today. Legs still feel wobbly this morning. Still I am 53 and feel every year of it! (I had done 47miles on and off road yesterday) But I expect I will be back out trig hunting soon. I have only about 40 to go to finish the "south" bit before the move will make it more difficult to get to them.

Ok. The next two Trigs proves that I am very mad! I needed to bag these today or they would be orphaned and woundnt be easy for me to bag them at a later date. It did rain a bit and the track got a bit slippery. It was roads from Downton so that made cycling easy. Peddle started to jam up again. A338 is busy road. Glad to get off it and go up BW that should take me straight to trig. It was very overgrown with wet grass that gave of pollen every time i knocked it. My phone was covered in it and i had to clean it or I couldnt look at the map on it. It did start to rain a bit. It was a hard slog up the hill. Through gate and into filed with cows in it. There was a sign saying "Cows with carves can be aggressive". Great. They ran away as I cycled along and didnt cause me any problems. Trig is on hill fort. Easy to find. But I was finding it hard going. My legs were feeling a bit weak. Still only one more trig to do! and it is sort of on the way back.

This was very much an off road way of getting to trig. Weather does look like it is closing in. I was going to go along the FP through a field with cattle in it but a man on a quad bike told me that, "Cows dont like bikes. Better to take the BW down by the farm." I thanked him and went the way he suggested. It was probably a better way even if it was a bit steeper after the farm. Trig is tucked away in corner of field, behind hedge.

Good call to go along cycle route 24. Left peddle of bike started to jam up. The bearings must be going. It always the left one. Left 24 at West Dean. Then up rather steep BW to get to BW with trig on it. Saw black dear in fields. Parked bike just off BW and squeezed through gap in veg and over fence. Noting down where it was. I didnt want to have to search for bike for 30mins like i have done before. Took well defined tractor tracks to Trig, that was in nice neat square clear patch. Went along the Ox Drove as it seemed quite good to start off with. Further along it got very wet and muddy. Fell over once into a big muddy puddle. Saw a Land Rover with army plates go past. They didnt offer to give me and my bike a lift though. Trig is covered in an interesting red moss. Last one of the day as, even though it wasnt a long cycle, I am worn out!

Saw pigs running free in the road on the way back to car. This will be last big trig hunting cycle this year because of knee and shorter days. As I was passing, and I wanted to ask someone who had moved a trig how it was done, I called in on the off chance. I was greeted by a whole pack of farm dogs, all rather friendly though. I rang the house bell (its a bell on a chain) but no answer. After a little while the farmer, Graham, came out from one of the barns. While he was a little cold, he was willing to try and answer my questions on how he moved the trig. "Get a big JCB in and its easy. They aren't as heavy as you think", was his answer. He couldn't remember anything like the contractors name or how much it cost. He then allowed me to take some pictures of it. But it is a memorial to his grandparents so respect must be shown. Glad I was able to bag this one and get some useful info about how to move Trigs. The location for this trig has not been updated, so I have notified the website with the new coords (SP 11005 05026). This is private, not that it matters. But if them gates are locked you wont be able to come this way!" He was quite friendly and wasnt really upset, just wanted me to know that I should really get to the trig by going the long way around from the cinema carpark. Somehow I got the idea that he didn't get on too well with the others who lived on this private drive as he told me some stuff about them. Lovely early morning cycle along the Kennet and Avon Canal. While going up the road to Hannington the power cables above it made a very disconcerting crackling sound. Trig has been moved to edge of field. Quite easy to find. But it is in a very sorry condition. Spider gone and the FB has chip marks all around it. Lovely view to West. Good fun coming off down the hill. And got back home in time for "Pop Master" as well. :)

Parked car at Painswick Beacon car park and walked up to the fort, where the trig is. Great views to NW. Trig has Toposcope hat, so cant see spider, but still, it hasn't got brick cladding like previous trig (TP2165) so can see FB. Lovely way to start the day. Now for a long car drive to get Mrs 50th birthday present.

Another trig got to by car. This is becoming a habit now. Parked by church and walked up the road and then pathway to trig. Lovely sunrise over Gloucester. This trig has not only got a toposcope over its spider but, has been covered in brick work, so cant see FB. Not too sure why this was done. Others that have been topo-ised, have had FB left uncovered (see next log of TP5279). Great views to SW.

Second of the day. Left Mrs and dog in car again. Went to clubhouse and spoke with Club Secretary Ryan, who gladly gave consent. As long as I was aware of golf balls, etc. He was very pleased that I asked permission and said that they got several visits a year. I took a short, direct walk, out of club house, up hill to 5th tee. Trig is very well cared for and has a lovely fresh coat of white paint. It was a quick visit as it looked like rain. Got back to the car and the napping Mrs, before it started to pee it down. M32 on the way home was very wet! How i love motorway driving in the pouring rain!

We were driving through Bristol, l so I took the chance to bag a couple of trigs on the way. This trig is now behind a new housing development but after reading the previous logs, I decided it was worth a try. Leaving the Mrs and Neptune the dog, in the car, I rang the bell of No19 and a bloke called Freddy answered the door. He and his partner were very friendly and kindly invited me in to their house. The trig is behind, not only their wooden fence, but a wire security one as well. It is also being eaten by the surrounding vegetation. I didn't fancy climbing over two fences. Even if the owners did offer to find me a ladder. The house has great views over Temple Meads Station and Bristol in general. At night it must be spectacular. Not too sure that the Mrs understood why I was so excited about bagging this trig (or any one, to be honest!)

I could see the start of a path from the ROW to this trig but it stopped after about 5m with a load of cider bottles. I asked a lady walking a dog and she said the trig was there but it was very very VERY overgrown with brambles. After trying to clear about a meter i gave up. I dont want to be ripped to shreds. I might monitor future logs for this trig and come back if someone braver then me clears a path to it.

After the first 3 of the day taking about an hour each, it took me no time wizzing down the hill into Wribbenhall. Took ROW opposite end of B4190 and entered field over a gate lying flat on the ground. I then cycled along dog walkers paths to about 50m of the trig. Climbed through a very dilapidated fence to get to Trig. Not much of a view because of trees. Blue tent was near it. Good views over the town as I came back the same way.

I spoke with the building supervisor (in his yellow hard hat and sun glasses) to see if I could get access to this Trig, that is behind a temp fence at the moment. But he said "Not until the new school is finished, in May 2018". I asked what were the plans for it and if it was safe. He assured me that it was and when the school is finished it will be in a little conservation area, with a gate to access it. I asked if he knew about the historic importance of the Trig and he said that he did. He even said that he had had it surveyed and said that it was found to be slightly out of true. So I made do with a picture of it behind its protective fencing.

Please just go straight up there and come right back." I assured him that i would. Just a quick note that the Pillar you can see near the West entrance is an old base for an aerial. After the last two I visited were destroyed I am very happy to see this one in fine fettle. Good views as well. Cycling up the hill from Southsea Island doesnt seem as bad as it did 30 years ago!

My plan here was to only see if I could get a picture of the Trig from the ROW that passes the other side of the airfields fence. As i know from other loggers that it in not easy to get access to. But I didnt have much luck. I had walked past the fir trees and couldnt see where the Trig was. So started to make my way back, when I saw a small hole in the fence, at ground level. Hmm.. I thought, "will i see if i can find the Trig?" And I crawled through it. Trig is next to disused runway near some trees that hide it from the fence line. It was in good condition but I didnt hang around. So took some pics and darted back under the fence.

Asked at farmhouse and was given consent for me to photo the TP. The water tower is far more interesting then the average Trig. Last of the day.
2016-10-10 13:57 - TP2470 (Cowcroft)
FB Number: S4453 Condition: Good Score: 5/10
Parked in St George Carpark and then walked up ROW to trig. Easy to find on side of path just in woodland.
2016-10-10 12:57 - TP0919 (Atkins Farm)
FB Number: S4507 Condition: Good Score: 5/10
Parked by ROW on Green Ln and then walked along ROW and then field edge. WOW, can you see this Trig. The vegetation around it has all been cut down and cleared away and the pillar its self has been give a lovely coat of white paint! Nice walk to it but no views really.
2016-10-10 12:34 - TP5451 (Pink Hill)
FB Number: S4758 Condition: Good Score: 5/10
Had to park car at side of road. Thank goodness some kind person has cut back the hedge around the trig so it was easy to find.
2016-10-10 12:21 - TP0261 (Windsor Hill)
FB Number: S2027 Condition: Good Score: 5/10
Bike chain broke when going up the hill to this one so had to roll back down to get the car. Good thing it was mostly down hill. Parked the car in the Whiteleaf Carpark and walked up Peters Ln and hopped over the gate and then doubled back along the field edge to the trig. I could see what remains of Didcot Power Station in the distance.
2016-10-10 11:13 - TP5612 (Red House Farm)
FB Number: S4929 Condition: Good Score: 4/10
Rather a long walk around edge of newly planted field to get to this uninspiring trig. It might be close to a train line and you can hear the trains but not really see them. Funny place for a TP as the land is rather low here and you cant see much.
2016-10-10 10:38 - TP4919 (Moreton Farm)
FB Number: S4765 Condition: Good Score: 6/10
Followed the road up from Ford and then climbed over gate. It was then a simple trip up the grassy avenue.

Further into the field then it looked on the map. But easy to get to. Last one of eight i have bagged today. Now to cycle back to the car. But its uphill!

Parked bike at entrance to field and the walk around edge to TP. As others have said, its not on the hillock but just to its side. Good views over M40.

FB Number: S4763 Condition: Slightly damaged Score: 5/10
This is actually in the field behind the hedge. Best way of accessing it is to go to the gate to the NE of the TP on the road and then walk back. This side of the hedge had been cut back using a flayer so surprised the TP isnt more damaged.

This is my 200th TP and i didnt know if i would be able to get to it, but in the end, it was easy. You can cycle to within 200m using the informal ROW following rather decrepit barbwire fence. Then hop over it and short walk to TP. Lovely dappled sunshine.

At least it was flat to cycle from last TP to get this Very disappointing one. Especially considering it was the last one of the 10 done today. On edge of building site, behind fence, next to a pile of rubble. Now off for a well earned pint (or two) with a friend!

Ok, this is only 1.5 miles from TP1014 - Bannerdown but rather hard work to get to it. Ended up pushing the bike up the grassy bank to get to the top. But well worth it! Great views over Bath. Lovely rainbow when coming off the hill. TP its self is rather exposed at the base. Best TP of the day. (No8 of 10 so only 2 more to do.)

Bath is far too hilly! This TP is just off a bridleway on a golf course in a clump of scrub. I got told off by a golfer for "disappearing" off the path. "you would be in trouble if you got hit by a golf ball. And so would we!" he told me. TP rather average. Sharp exit off golf course down signed bridleways. No9 out of 10 for today.

Cycled up the byway to get to this early morning Trig Bag. Tried to find it from the south side of the hedge but couldnt. Tried the north side and did find it as there was a gap in the hedge that made it easy. But the Trig almost on the southern edge so I should have been able to find it.

More pheasants around the buildings near the TP. While cycling back I saw some solders in Camouflage uniform with High Vis tabards over the top. I asked one of them why and they said "that is how the Army works now. Its health and safety because we are on the road giving out water to the runners." I came across the runner a bit further up the road coming the other way. Ones at the back were more friendly ans would say Hi, then the front runners.

Near-ish memorial to the 625 Squadron on Limber Hill going to Binbrook. Because of the newly planted hedge it is much easier to get into the field from this road then the one with the Trig on and to walk around the edge to it.

Rather further then I thought to get to this one. Went past Manby and the Terrain Hopper factory, but still a bit early to call in. I walked up the wrong side of the ditch to get to this Trig and met a bloke in a 4WD who asked me what I was doing. When I said about getting to the trig he said that i would have to go back and go along the other side. I thanked him and he seemed OK with it. After getting over rather rusty gate, walk to Trig was ok and the trig its self is up on a mound and leaning. Loads of wind turbines can be seen out to the coast.

I was passing so thought I would try and bag this one. Rang bell at No 21 and a very old grumpy man came to the door. I think he was in a lot of pain. I asked if I could get to the Trig and he gave his consent. The pillar is almost hidden with ivy reclaiming it. I accidentally knocked over the ladders but put them back. Absolutely no views of any sort, unless you like looking into the back windows of houses. An interesting trig just because its in someones back garden. Otherwise, very boring.

Hmm.. I must be getting tired! Cycled up farm drive as it is a bridleway. Blokes in farm yard told me where the BW goes. In a nice way. The BW gets you withing 50m of the trig but then you have to hop over a barbwire fence and into, what looks like, a pheasant feeding station. There was a trailer , but no-one about. I then bashed around in the stingers and bracken trying to find it. I was about to give up as I couldnt see it anywhere and didnt want too much noise, when, if by magic, I saw it. It was in a small clearing. Glad this is the last one for today as took a bit of a lie down, once i got back to the bike. Took it slow back to Chieveley but the over grown BW didnt help in a couple of places.

I went down ROW and parked bike just after the gate. About 5m after it there was a very obvious gap in the hedge, with scramble marks leading up to it, that goes into the field with the strange bamboo crop on it. I then followed the edge of this field round to the corner of the coppice. There was the remains of a barbwire fence. Be careful not to trip over it. The Trig was easy to spot once in the wood. No views. Rather uninteresting for the first one today.

They were doing a lot of roadworks on the road so i went up the path that started at the junction to the East and went along in the field on the other side of the hedgerow. By now I was completely soaked from head to toe. I cycled up the track to the house where there was a bloke angle grinding the gates in the rain. I asked if i could get access to the TP and he called over a woman. I think she must be the person others have called "the nanny". She wasnt too sure what i was after, but said i could come in and go anywhere in the garden. As i must have looked rather soggy, to say the least, i was quite surprised she was so accommodating. The ball on top of it has been moved and now there is only some stones on it, and the spider is now completely visible. The centre cap is missing. Still a rather strange colour green. No views except for the garden. Left via the front gate and said goodbye and thanked the bloke working on the gate. I do hope it stops raining or i will have a very soggy cycle home.

The gate at the reservoir was rather high for me to climb and looked rather rickety. The gate at the other side had been blocked up. And after I had walked all the way round i couldnt see any easy way in, so just took picture from outside the fence. The grass was rather wet and it started to rain on the way back to the bike.

They had started in Edinburgh and i saw them going down the road close to TP4072 and Ewelme. Easy walk up edge of filed of wheat to get to TP. It is in good order and nice views over Oxfordshire countryside. Saw thew last car go by (number 41) when I got back to the road where I had left the bike.

Second of the day. Found a fledgling bird, in a distressed condition, caught on some brambles hanging upside down, when I was locking up my by on the gate by the Route 5 sign. Cut it free using my Secateurs. Looked fine but a bit dazed afterwards. Went up the footpath that had a sign saying beware lambs in field, but i didnt see any. Over another stile into a filed of corn. Followed it to edge and then walked up field edge to the clump of trees with TP. Yes, the TP is leaning a bit but otherwise OK. Nice views over Didcot and Oxfordshire country side. I Could see rain coming in, so headed back down the hill.

The first, of hopefully 4 today, around my old stamping ground so they should be easy to get. Took Bridal path heading north from A4130 as i had come from Wallingford. I was glad I was using my backup bike, a mounting bike with big knobbly tyres, as the path has long grass all over it and bumpy. The TP is rather over grown with Stingers and some brambles. I only had to knock them back to get access to it. Nice views over Didcot Power Station. Kept going along Bridal path until i came out on the Didcot Rd and turned right to get to my next TP.

Quickpenny is not a nice road to cycle along! Rather hilly and bendy with a lot of traffic going a long it. There is a pathway off it that take you to the TP. You will need to get through a smallish gap with brambles around it to get into the field. Take something to cut this back, if i was you. Ok views over Bath and towards Bristol. This will def be my last TP of the day. At least from here on, its down hill on to the cycle way and then should be flat-ish along Route 4 on the way back.

I did have plans to see if i could do more TP around Bath but my legs are telling me "no". So I bagged this one on the way to the Bristol to Bath Cycle way. this TP is on the top of a hillock in a park on the edge of Bath. It has been paint white and has quite a lot of "tagging" on it by kids, I expect. Nice views over Bath.

After managing to stay off the A367 on my way to Bath by going on the B3115, I did have to go a short way on it to get to this TP. Quite a lot of hills around here and my legs are feeling it. There is an open gateway to get onto a filed that leads to this TP after going through a small path in the hedge at the top of the grassy bank. TP had a round glass object on top of it that made it look a little like it had a Cristal Ball on it. Nice views over farmland.

Started out on my way back from Midsummer Norton with a quick diversion to bag this TP. Quite easy to find as there are foot paths in the field it is in. The War Memorial adds interest to another wise average TP. The Memorial seem to keep having bit added to it. And i was told by a lady with a dog that there is a service here in early September.

After cycling through the Two Tunnels in Bath. (if you get a chance this cycle path is well worth it!) I took another detour at Wellow to get to this TP. It is quite well hidden in the hedgerow. There is a small hole in the hedge by the road to get access to the field and the TP is about 4m west of it. My goodness there are a lot of hills around here.

TP number 4 and last for today. All were quite boring but now have done this corner of the M4/M3 corridor. Had a bit of an adventure trying to get to this one on my bike. Decided to go down Forrest Tracks to keep off the A30. That was a mistake, as there was logging in the area. Ended up trying to get to TP from open scrub land. Would have been OK but for drainage ditch that i had to get across with bike. Went back along A30 past Airfield but didnt see any planes taking off.

TP number 3. Its on Army land but no signs of action or anyone but other cyclists and dog walkers about. Except for the bit down the A30 the cycle was good. (at least that was down hill) Yet another rather boring TP in a woodland setting. No Views.

I really wanted to bag this one, as it is quite close to me and the views should be good. I read other people logs and know that it would be very Secret Squirrel. I worked out that probably the best way of getting there, with the least chance of bumping into anyone and staying away from any buildings, was to start in Whithurch Hill, just off the B471, on Goring Heath Rd. There is parking by the Sign saying The Chiltern Way Extension, if you need to drive there. I cycled, naturally. Note; the Wihtchurch Hill, is great to cycle down but not to climb up! Follow the Path heading East, past the houses and across the grass field through the gate saying, “This is a foot Path; No Bikes, Horses, etc” and on to the farm track way. Keep heading East for 1/10 mile and go down the Private track heading South. (You are now in Secret Squirrel Mode for about 0.6 of a mile!) At the end of this track follow the field edge on the south side heading towards the west. The field had crops in it but the boarder has been left as grass and had been cut, so was easy to follow. At corner of the filed head down hill towards the SE. There are loads of path ways into this wood and it is quite easy going. Heading SW cut down the wooded hill until you come out onto a set of grass fields. There were no animals in them. In a rather short distance there are 3 gates to cross until you get to the track coming up from Bozebown Farm. Carry on straight up through the second woodland and there is a gate at the top to get access to the field with the Trig Point in it. There is a bit of an animal track to follow along the edge of this filed that keeps you quite well hidden until you see the TP. The total distance from the carpark is about a mile. See JPG for path taken. I didn’t stay long but the views to the South, over the Thames Valley are quite good, even if it was overcast. Quite Please with bagging this one.

I wanted to find this TP as it is quite close to my GFs house. Very steep climb up to TP and its not easy tp find as it has Twenty Beeches planted around it for the Millennium. I found my KML file that i had loaded onto my Google Maps on my phone really useful here. Loads of stingers and glad the path made by THE KOSCIOWS a couple of days ago. Lovely views over Dumbleton on the way down.

As i was driving past this one i thought i would stop and bag it. Trust me to do it one a Speedway day so there were cars parked everywhere. Did find a quite side street just off the roundabout. The TP was easy to find but i was slightly concerned as the weather looked like it was going to rain and it was getting rather dark. I hoped for a lovely sunset but that wasnt to be. Good-ish views over fields but i dont know for how much longer as they are building new houses all round there.

Cycled up byways from Chilton. This was the first TP that i tried to track down using only the app on my phone and its compass. I didnt look at the map at all. The TP is just off the Ridge Way so not too difficult to fine. Someone has put a blue rope on a branch of a tree near where the TP is. It is just in a field off the track by the edge of a fence. 5th and last TP of the day. Glad that i could just cycle down hill to Compton and the car. A good way to finish a days trig hunting!

Hagbourne Hill was closed so had to cycle up London rd to Harwell and then go up The Holloway and come from it from the opposite direction. There was someone in the drive to the house so i asked if i could go up the drive to the Trig point. He readily gave it and told me were it was. TP is in good condition and some nice views if weather was better. Quite a lot of vegetation had grown around it but was easy to clear it away.

Tried to get to this from the wrong direction. Followed the footpath from Aston Tirrold. And then thought about trying short cut up the side of the hill through gate. The hillside is covered in holes made by badgers and rabbits. Fell down about 4 before i gave up and went along until second gate that enter field with sheep in it. Still very slippy but easy walk to Trig Point. It now has a new fence in front of it so difficult to get good picture of bracket. The track down to Blueberry was much nicer. Def go that way if you are thinking of going there.

Cycled to it along Byways from Aldworth. Though it wasnt raining, vegetation was very wet and made me very wet. The views over Didcot and what remains of the power station would be very good if the weather was better. The pillar gets extra marks because of the plaque in memory of Peter Cowden MBE. Had loads of trouble trying to cycle down to A417 off the hill because of the slippy byways. The bit by the pig farm was the worse as it was all flooded. Got soaked getting through it.

Rather a lot of work to get to this "easy" Pillar. It is easy to find but is rather over grown and quite a lot of brambles to scratch you when fighting to get to it.
