From St Cyrus Nature Reserve and along the minor road to Marykirk. The track up the west side of the hill led into the wood and near the top a faint path led southwards to the pillar amongst the tall grass and gorse bushes. Gorse obscured the flush bracket on the south face but managed to clear a path to get a picture. Best views seaward to the south and east.

Graham No.7. A long walk from Edzell via the Lethnot Road and bulldozed tracks. Last part crossing over clumpy heather and a double fence at the pillar. Pillar in good condition although the base is eroded and virtually an island in the surrounding puddles. Views were excellent on a clear morning, from the snow-capped Lochnagar and Cairngorms, all the way south over Angus to Fife, with the border hills a smudge on the horizon.

Part of a long clockwise circular walk from Methven. Having disregarded Keillour and not finding Shalloch, managed to bag this. Took the track through the wood from the bridge over the Methven/Moneydie road, then a muddy route up through the pasture. Pillar easily spotted on top of hillock. Less muddy route down to the south from the pillar, then east to the road.

This was Munro no.10 back in August 2000, but didn`t realise then there had been a pillar up here. Went up for third time, the first in clear conditions, white cloud in valleys, to see remains. Very little left, but 8/10 for the views on a glorious autumn morning.

Marilyn no.7. An early start from the lay-by on the B9134 just west of Aberlemno. Fortunately, little traffic at this time of the morning as there`s no verge on the stretch leading to the junction heading to the Back of Turin Hill. The unclassified road here quickly ends and turns into a track passing Turin Hill Farm where the track eventually fizzles out at March Wood and the going became muddy until clear of the wood. After that it was a short, easy route on drier grass to the summit heading east. Trig point with memorial cairn on other side of dyke. Views were extensive, taking in most of Angus along with coast and mountains.

Corbett no.24. Starting at Balhennie it wasn`t an enticing prospect. Heavy drizzle and a brooding black heathery hillside awaited. Along the A97 on the way a brief gap in the clag showed that there was snow somewhere up there as well. But once started the rain eased and the cloud gradually lifted. The snow line was reached after the initial first rise but it was only a few inches deep and a line of fence posts pointed the way to the summit cairn and trig. These were covered in frozen snow

Corbett no.23. A lengthy friday afternoon jaunt from Loch Moraig. A good part was along a track but then slow going over grass and heather until the summit. The most striking view was directly north, to the right of Beinn a` Ghlo, where the Cairngorms either side of the Lairig Ghru stood out.

This was corbett no.17 after bagging Carn Liath on the same trip up from Invercauld. Culardoch is more prominent than it`s neighbour and it was only a short sharp climb up the heather from the track leading over the bealach between both hills. The view showed off a stormy looking Ben Avon to the north west and a heavy shower came in after leaving the summit

Munro no.91. Climbed from track up from A9. Did this one before going on to Carn na Caim. After leaving the track crossed a slight gully, then reached the summit area. Fortunately it was a clear day otherwise this would have been a difficult one to find. Best of the view was to distant peaks south-westerly

Munro no.81, on the way from Beinn Ime. From the col this looked a steep climb but turned out to be not as bad as it looked and was swiftly up at the trig on a little plateau summit. The way back down to the head of Loch Long was more spectacular and this would certainly have been a tough start if coming the opposite way.

Munro no.80. From the shore of Loch Long, up between The Cobbler & Beinn Narnain. The ridge up to Beinn Ime was more strenuous than it looked. Very little left of the trig. View was good on probably the best day of this disappointing summer, mainly to nearby peaks and an arrow straight view of the A83 heading down Glen Kinglas towards Loch Fyne. Went back via Beinn Narnain.

After abandoning the year before, now had a much clearer day to do the entire range of Beinn a` Ghlo, of which Carn nan Gabhar is the highest point and furthest from the start. The trig is in the centre of three distinct tops, the most northerly being the actual summit. A short journey north of this brings a birds-eye view down to Loch Loch. Munro no.39
