Spent ages digging out a promising rock to find it was a rock. May well still be there but will not be easy to find. Disappointed!

At end of road as shown on map go straight ahead along faint track to the wall. Cross at a gap then veer left, first descending then ascending gently through larch trees. Widely spaced so trig found more easily than I thought it might be. No views.

Well done snaik for finding this. Closest pillar to work so was unhappy when it vanished. Parked on farm road where pillar used to be. Walked down old A9 and struggled to get past couple of hundred metres of dung. Fell in near the bottom, wet foot and mucky trousers. Trig on new A9 side at end of dung. Well buried in foliage at this time of the year. Easy return along new A9 edge - care needed due to high speed traffic.

Poor trig - moved and toppled. Volunteers to help right it post on forum.

Parking to south at entrance to marked track. Had to detour through fields due to cattle - had trig bagging collie with me. Followed track to end, no sign of any visitors - easy place to get lost, fall and have a very long wait for help. From track end go 50 yards straight ahead then 45 left through gap in trees. Past bird table in middle of bog then left at fallen big shooting seat thing. Up wide ride (narrow one blocked by fallen trees), then quick jook left then right and you're there. The map indicates a considerable distance between the track end and the forest rides - the actual distance is much less - be careful. Explorer 348 is much more realistic than the Street map on this site. Wear waterproof boots or wellies and in summer be prepared for millions of flies. First visit for 5 years.

Climb on roof furthest from road and there it is! Good spot - almost ready to forgive Gerryu2 for upside down photos.

Tried detouring to the right through fields to avoid the house at the end of the quarry road - slow and ripped knee out of trousers on barbed wire. This also led to a much prolonged ascent through the tussocks - horrific ankle twisting stuff. Recommend going up quarry road to house and cutting up to left -it'll still be hellish but shorter and your trousers will remain intact. Be warned!!!

Make sure to go at least 100 yards on the track when you turn left at the benchpast or you will regret it.

Easy to park on road and hop over fence. Pillar dead ahead over sheep/cattle field. Over wooden fence corner and struggle alongside fence to pillar. Fence electrified(another one!) so couldn't be bothered struggling round to find a gate to check number this time.

Substation construction in full swing - instead of wildlife rich walk through old bing and hop over fence it's now round the outside of the big fence, over walls and electrified fences, past lorries and excavators - not enjoyable. Trig well buried in long grass under power lines.

Thanks to whoever dug the turf out- despite attempting to clear the stands of willowherb and careful searching I had resort to feeling around with my feet until I 'fell in the hole' with the block at the bottom.

Parked at side of old military road, straightforward 15 min walk but much windier than map implies, also gets progressively boggier as you get deeper into the forest. Trig fairly well hidden in bracken in the first open area on the right of the track. Not a trace of any other visitors.

Visited all the other pillars driving on day in May, missed this one out. Long cycle this time as ferry fare expensive for short distance. Encased in a rocky coating now like a huge beehive - why? Maybe once all the others pillars have crumbled this will be 'unveiled' and become the mecca for baggers........
