Very easy find along footpath. Tried to measure angle but too windy for a plumb line - could never have predicted that! Angle doesn't look too worrying though.

As others have said, in the midst of thick bracken even in December. Whichever way you approach you will be thinking "there must be a better way than this", but there isn't. Good car parking in layby near road junction. Unfortunately spoiled by a litter bin which it appears Wakefield Council last emptied in 1984.

In a garden area which spans the length of the terrace of 3 houses. However only 5 metres from roadside and a clear view if you step up into the hedgerow so no need to disturb the householders. Looking in good nick!

From gate at road junction but involved crossing a locked gate and a barbed wire fence. There is good parking not far along the B6132 running north from the junction.

Good roadside parking and a 2 minute walk up through the woods. Easily seen at this time of year but located within the wooded area so views are restricted.

Signage on the field opening (see photo) suggests the land owners are discouraging trig visitors specifically as it seems unlikely anyone else would want to head into the field. However I asked at the farm a little further down the lane and the pleasant lady there gave me permission to walk across the field as there was nothing currently planted. Suggest for the good name of trigpointing others do likewise as there doesn't seem to be any other viable means of access. On arrival it is easy enough to spot but well buried at the right hand end of the hedge. As in many cases, housing development is underway close by and it may not be long before another pillar is lost.

Easily found along bridleway in a semi-urban area but with extensive views in most directions. Despite being alongside a hedge it has thus far escaped capture.

Parked to west in Hall lane opposite piles of tipped rubbish and the shell of a burned out building. Walked DOWNHILL (unusual!) on muddy waterlogged tracks. Location of pillar not immediately obvious but on top of far (east) embankment of old railway cutting about 50 yds from track just outside corner of field. To get there involved 1. Stepping over an electric fence, 2. Ducking under an electric fence, 3. Lying on floor and rolling under an electric fence, 4. Stepping round land mines and slaying dragons, 5. Avoiding 100 ft drop off a cliff edge, before eventually finding it cowering in its lair of vegetation. The position is strange, even without vegetation it wouldn't command much of a view in most directions. OK 4 was a lie.

This is the kind of walk to a trig pillar I visualised when I embarked on this bizarre project a few months ago. Good paths (if a little boggy today), open access and good views.

Now just outside the perimeter fence of an under construction housing development. If it goes beyond the currently fenced area it will swallow up the pillar. Still buried in a hawthorn hedge, in need of secateurs treatment. Access path heavy with mud and dog poo.

Pillar is in good condition, nicely painted and now has a second memorial plaque attached (for David Ryland). Sadly the approach from the road has been trashed by off-roaders who both carved up the moorland and left rubbish and vehicle parts in their wake. Very upsetting.

Took some time to track this one down. Looking in wrong estate for ages until a friendly native pointed me in the right direction. Access is from A650 behind war memorial. Very pleasant if non-original location but surrounded by houses so no views. Closest pillar to a motorway junction??

Took a little while to locate the right approach path. Need to be on "Harthill Lane" not "Harthill". Then cross barbed wire at more than crotch height oo..er. Not the most exhilarating find but at least the crown jewels are still intact.

Stood at the wall 5m away from the pillar. Didn't cross the wall to touch it because: 1. It's in a residential garden and I wanted to respect their privacy. 2. The wall looked unstable and I didn't want to cause any damage. 3. I don't fancy my chances face to face with a large alsatian on his patch. 4. The grass was long and wet. (Actually 4 wasn't a significant part of the rationale).

Path from Oxygrains Old Bridge is not obvious but ignore the obvious path and go 40yds on road towards Ripponden to find a path taking the diagonal ramp left. This soon comes to a top gate then follow it all way to trig (faint through long grass in early part)
