Brilliant sunshine and a crisp day across the city. Got there just before the tourists got going. The rocks around the trig are very polished and are not the best with a layer of thick frost on them. Trig is in good condition considering how many people climb up to it and hang on it while taking pictures.

Parked at spot height 108 to the SW. Nice walk over Etal Moor. Gate at NT950399, this is part of Ford - Etal circular walk and passes the south side of the wood on Rhodes Hill. There is a gate on the south side with animal tracks through the bracken up to the trig.

Parked by Fenwick Wood and entered Kyloe wood at the gate next to Blawearie House. Follow the tracks to Dingle Bungalow, these are well defined. The track from here to Shepherdskirk Bungalow is also very well used. Nearly inline with the trig the track splits, keep to the good track and turn off at 90 degree's, there are various animal tracks up to the trig point area. The views to the Cheviots are good from Shepherdskirk Bungalow.

A very wet and windy November day with the light fading fast. The road past the trig is not the best, full of deep pot holes and it will only get worse as there is field after field of sugar beet. Also found two MOD observation towers for the bombing range off of the coast, day was complete with Chinook low level fly by.

On the canal bank, nice little parking space right next to it. Would recommend that you park with the flow of traffic and do not try and cross the lane when pulling back onto the road. Second visit for pictures. Parked by the holiday cottage and walked up to the wood via the footpath. Just inside the wood there is a metal gate, hop that and walk along the field boundary to gate at NT878 345. Walk round the field boundary to NT876 346 where there is another gate into the field where the trig is located. Excellent 360 views.

Route as Paulxtr. The logging tracks in the wood start out ok but soon become overgrown with deep wheel ruts under the grasses. The last part of the walk along the boundary witht he access land is a little bit of a headache, lots of fallen trees and ferns to contend with.

Followed the mountain biking track up from the car park to the top of the wood. Crossed the wall and fence at an easy spot. On the way back, made towards the north east corner of the field to rejoin the bike track and continued around to Gallows laws. The bike track peters out so found a logging road covered in grasses to walk back along, eventually found the main path back to the car park.

Path in the woods turns into a deer track when you turn NE at the corner of the field.

There is a local argument with the B&B at the lighthouse as to whether the road is for public use or not. It is a right of way so drove along and parked at the bottom of the road up to the masts, walked up to them and across the bog from the masts. Done after a spell of good weather so quite firm under foot.

Followed the Peat Road from Polbain / Blair. Sign posted on the track where to cut back in and skirt Lochan Dubh and on to Meall a' Chaisteil. Path is a bit vague in places. From here there is a distinguished path up the south side of the hill to the masts and trig. Back down along the tar track and back to Polbain along the road. .
