This time took the route around the valley and through 4 fords then up the well surfaced Landrover track to the top. Still a little snow and fantastic views down to the coast to the north.

Parked in Abbey Saint Bathans and cycled up Barnside Hill. Through fields at the top to the marked path at NT 727 628 which is a short trudge through boggy old tyre tracks to the newly surfaced forest roads. Very easy to the pillar from there and a very enjoyable cycle. Then down down down to Ellemford Bridge and along the Southern Upland Way back to Abbey. This is a brilliant couple of hours off road cycling and so an 8 for the pillar. The survival of the pillar amongst heavy tree felling is fairly miraculous!
