Second time I've been here, but had no log for the first visit. I was passing through the area and needed to walk the dog, and quite a strenuous walk it turned into, as I started from the row of terraced houses to the NE and did a circular route. Worth a trip (and the mark) for the views and a pint at the pub, but I didn't have time for that today!

Parked by the church in the village and made my way up by the most obvious route. There had been much forestry work so there were small pine branches carpeting the ground. Trig was easily accessible but with no views except the one pictured. I was surprised to see butterflies flying around in the amazingly warm weather.

My first attempt to find this trig pre-dated GPS and failed, so I was delighted to follow the marker on my OS Maps app which took me there after 10 mins of wandering through the surrounding scrub. Lots of hawthorn, dead bracken, fallen leaves and an egg-box terrain didn't help, but the dog enjoyed herself!

The warmest February day on record seemed the ideal opportunity to get a few more 2019 trig points under my belt, and I started with a belter. I parked just short of Purchas Farm and branched off the marked track to follow a short, steep route to the ridge which was bathed in sunshine. The views were stupendous, if a little hazy at that time in the morning. The first of five today.

I sometimes see entries written by people who stumble across trigpoints and have found them hard to believe, but that was exactly the case with this one. I was driving back home from N Devon and suddenly thought - I wonder if there is a trig round here? So I pulled in to check the map at the top of this hill and there was the trig right in front of me! I couldn't believe the coincidence - it must have been calling me!! Good views of Dartmoor.

Pretty sure I've been here before whilst staying at the camp. I certainly remember the first time I visited that, being speed-marched up the hill from the town. Today I was viewing the local auction, so walked from there in a 6km round trip. Despite the fairly low cloud, the views were good, especially South across the moor and over the town. There has been some sort of concrete structure here before, the remains of which are close - probably something to do with the military during the war (Ahaa...see what Lathama says in his 2014 log).

My sixth Islay trig. Wonder if I'll ever come back to get some more.....? I'd like to but there are so many lovely looking islands to explore. Stopped at Bowmore's Whisky shop on the way to the ferry wistfully hoping to find an affordable bottle of Port Ellen. Cheapest was £675. The bottle I bought 20 years ago for £99 was on the shelf at £3750!!

Surprised a big hare sunning himself on the road whilst driving up, then parked near the memorial and set off. Going good but surprisingly wet as we skirted around the Highland Cattle and calves. Such a beautiful beach NW of Sanaigmore Bay! Followed farmer's vehicle track towards the summit, then struck off through chest high bracken, floating bogs and ankle-gripping heather. It was hard work, but we persevered, overcame the disappointment of the false summit and eventually hit the top, which offered really breathtaking views and the company of three wild goats, one with the biggest set of curly horns I've ever seen! I had to carry the dog draped around my shoulders for the worst of the bracken, because it was such hard going for her! Being a Staffie she was most indignant at this overt challenge to her athleticism, but I ignored her wriggling and eventually she enjoyed the ride. Coming down I almost disappeared down a swampy hole which caused Kim much mirth, but otherwise the descent was uneventful. Much more of an epic than I had imagined, but a very, very satisfying trig to bag. All of a sudden it was 1630 and I'd only bagged half trigs I'd planned, but scallops and steak at the excellent Port Mor Bistro in Port Charlotte was tugging at my tummy, so we called it a day. Maybe a couple more tomorrow before catching the ferry back to the homeward journey.

Parked in a Passing Place (again) and discovered the roadside stream by confidently following a deer track and disappearing up to the top of my thighs. It was comedy gold so I chuckled, extracted myself and wandered 500m back down the road to what would have been a better parking place anyway to start my ascent. Next obstacle was a field of barley (for the nearby Kilchoman distillery) which I circumnavigated before finally finding myself on the NW slope. A straightforward yomp up ensued, troubled only by the alpha male bullock amidst a herd of cattle whose challenging stare I avoided whilst giving him and his mates a wide berth. The weather had cheered up by now so the views were really quite fab. I retraced my steps to the warmth of the motorhome having created a minor stampede despite my best efforts to avoid the hairy herd. On to what would be the last but best trig of the day at Cnoc Uamh nam Fear.......

As for Jonglew but I had read his post so when the farmer happily gave permission (as long as we moved our ugly motorhome from in front of his charming farmhouse) I turned right, not left, at the hard standing en route, which took longer but was a relatively easy yomp up. The whole expedition took 35 minutes and gave excellent views from the top. On to Cnoc Mor via Kilchoman Distillery.......

These little roadside ones look so simple don't they? We parked the motorhome in a passing place (I know, but traffic was light to non-existent!) and I trudged off manfully with dog in tow. Within a minute I was drenched from the thighs down from recently rain-soaked swamp grass. Pressing on regardless I hit a bend in the wire fence and used it literally as a handrail for a while before branching off to the top. Views somewhat marred by the drizzly weather but still spectacular. There and back took 35 mins. On to Sunderland Hill........

I believe "dreech" sums it up!

A tad disappointing that "Unreachable but Visible" describes my first Islay trig, but only a tad, because I didn't have the time to spend seeking a passage across. A glance at the map suggested I might swim across but looking at the current and, again, time, suggested otherwise. Maybe some other time. Brilliant spot though and just chuffed to be here at the start of a day when waaay more trigs were planned than achieved! Still an excellent day out though. On to Ben Cladville.......

Bit of an epic, this one. Staying with a friend in Little Bavington, I set off on my bike at 0650 and was dismayed by how much height I lost going through Hallington and further South. That was quicly made up in ascending Ryal Hill which has apparently gained infamy on the cycling Tour of Britain! Anyway, once I'd scraped my lungs off the road, I cycled steadily up to the trig, which offers spectacular views, particularly this morning, of rainclouds sweeping in from the west. Undeterred, in Hawaiin shirt and shorts, I hopped on the bike to find I had a puncture, and had I bought a repair kit or spare tube? Of course not. In the rain, I freewheeled and trudged back to Ryal to meet my host who had interrupted breakfast preparations to rescue me, bless 'im.

Stage 2 of the North-South attempt on the SW Coast Path, but Stage 4 overall, having also started from the southern end. This trig was a welcome blessing at the end of a long day in the trees, a little plagued by flies, some rain, and ripping my shots taking a big step down (there are a few big steps on this section!). Really enjoyed this long walk from Porlock Weir though and the gentle descent into Lynmouth was less painful on sore old knees than I expected. Caught a lovely old bus (No 300) back from Lynmouth to Porlock - slowest public transport I've ever been on. Our journey down Porlock Hill was made in 1st gear - Oh the tailback!

The 2nd trig on a 10-mile stage of the SW Coast Path from Swanage, which finished for us at the splendid Square & Compass pub in Worth Matravers. As others have described, it's a simple follow-the-hedgeline job from the chapel. A beautifully sunny day, the heat lessened by a welcome westerly, we have now cracked three stages of the SWCP, starting from each end, and bagged 4 trigs.

Day 2 of the SW Coast Path yomp from Poole. After a lovely breakfast we set out from Swanage and were delighted by Durlston Country Park and Tilly Whim Caves, which Kim remembers visiting as a child (they were closed to the public in 1976). From the lighthouse we took the higher path for 1500 meters, then branched off up the track signposted Herston. Having passed the quarry we crossed one field, clambered carefully over a stone wall, startling half a dozen deer, then crossed the next field to find the trig on the Western side of the next wall a little North of the gateway, with great views in most directions, including Corfe Castle. The route back to the SWCP took us through a gate with a Private Land notice, but we left only footprints and carried on to St Alban's Head unconcerned.

The first trig on the SW Coast Path coming from South Haven Point in Poole, which is where we yomped from on Stage 2 of our attempt to do all 630 miles in stages. In glorious weather we dropped the car at Worth Matravers, legged it to catch two buses to the Sandbanks Ferry Terminal, averted our eyes traversing Studland Bay nudist beach, stopped off for a very expensive drink at The Pig, gazed in awe at Old Harry Rocks, bagged the trig, then descended into Swanage where we spent the night at a lovely B&B (Taunton House) which did a cracking breakfast. A great day.

Made a slightly better than half-hearted attempt to get to this one and came close, but there was a ripe crop of barley filling both fields to the edges. I followed a tyre rut to the summit, pondered getting stung, barbed, prickled and dirty trying to find what has already been described as overgrown, thought better of it, and retraced my steps. Parking possible in Northern gateway, and that would provide more suitable access when fallow.

This was the last of 13 trigs I visited today and I thought I might be frustrated, as I had been with a couple of earlier ones due to lambs, undergrowth or my own stupidity. I ignored the unpleasant warning signs on the gate and drove right up to the locked gate. Thinking the trig was inside the fenced mast compound, I squeezed in and sauntered casually up the track. Finding it outside and pushed for time I took a quick snap and ran off happy that I'd got away with it!

Loved this trig which, thanks to the tree-felling activities going on at Tregowris, involved a much longer drive to reach it, detouring around some very dark, narrow, tunnel-like lanes. The view from the top made up for the extra miles though, overlooking Falmouth Bay on a beautiful afternoon. One of the better roadside trigs you'll find!

Pah! I knew exactly where this was but simply couldn't get to it without taking waaaay too much time for its worth. I parked where the eastern path meets the road at 740247, but there was n o access to the field. The western marked path involves a tricky climb over a stile in a tunnel of foliage and gives no access to the field in question. I managed to scramble to the top of the bank but couldn't see the damn thing so went and drowned my sorrows with a pint in St Keverne!

This is what happens when you are on a tight schedule to cram 13 trigs into one day. You misremember and convince yourself that this one was destroyed, so you pull into the quarry place, observe the mess it's all made, and drive on to the next one. So, I'm not having the gall to claim this as visited, but it's more that I cocked up and didn't make any attempt rather than that I failed to find it. I doubt if I'll be back though so this will have to do to turn that little blue dot into a red one on the Interactive Map!

Technically, it's a non-sighting so a fail, but I'm claiming it as bagged. Maybe I'll come back in Winter one day....yeah right!

Walked across the field to the South, through a gap in the NE corner and up the hedgeline which houses the trig. Much peering through foliage but I couldn't see any sign of it. Views were typical rolling Cornish countryside but nowt spesh. The field on the other side was electrified and contained sheep with lambs and as I had a young dog with no collar and only a makeshift lead, I avoided it. Following the farm track to the end gave me a long-distance view of the trig though, so having been yards away from it earlier I'm claiming it as bagged, and I'll fight anyone who challenges that claim!!!!

This one's wrongly named - it was definitely a Badern for me! Planned as the last visit of a day's Cornish trigging, traffic jams on the A30 into Redruth made it the first of the day, but despite following others' advice, I couldn't see it. I was there, clambered over banks and peered through undergrowth, but no joy. Nothing much to be seen from here either.

Parked in gateway to the East and walked across recently mown fields. The hedgeline and summit is rather dominated by the concrete structure identified earlier as a water tank and the trig was barely visible from that side. Crossing the summit gate reveals a lot more of it but it is pretty overgrown. Breathtaking all-round views of our green and pleasant land, easy access and nothing to be heard but the birds earned it the above average score.

Having called at the farm to find nothing but barking sheepdogs I parked in the double gateway at the bend in the road due East and wandered up via two fields and two gates. The trig is on the ramparts but tucked further in than the OS 1:50,000 suggests. With the trees in full Summer mantle there were no views to be had but it's a cool and pleasant spot on a very hot day.

Parked at Knightshayes and followed National Cycle Route 3 in a steady plod up the hill through the woods. Access is straightforward through a gate on the left, then right turn to follow the hedgeline to the top of the hill and you will find a classic Devon hedgeline trig with nice views across to Stoodleigh Beacon. This was the first of three today.

Parked in the Weighbridge Car Park and took the same route as Penfold in 2011. How I managed to avoid any more than 2 stings on my bare legs from the abundant nettles is a mystery. The top is a fairly wild place (except for the quarry noise) and gives great views as previously described. On returning to the car there was a polite note under my wipers for not checking in to the office. I went and apologised, got a friendly reception and briefed the chap on duty about the trig point and promised to include this advice on the website. So book in and you'll have no probs, but autumn or winter might be a better time of year!

Can't believe mine is only the 11th log, which adds to the score. I came up the clearly marked farm track from Yalberton to the SE, parking in a muddy "layby". The track petered out after 300m so I went through or over several field gates, going quietly so as not to scare the lambs, and access was remarkably easy if you discount the gradient! Views are pretty good, although the whole of Torbay can only be seen from slightly lower down. It took me about 50 mins.

I've been here before but for some reason had never logged it. Today this trig was the inspiration for a 6-mile walk around Stoke Hill in reasonable weather but with sodden ground underfoot. There are some great views to the North in particular, and some very dingly dells to be experienced from the surrounding footpaths. Trig still sits at the entrance to the Riding School which now also has a cafe called "Tasty Bits"....geddit!

Followed earlier advice and parked in Blackingstone Rock (an impressive lump of granite worth another visit) CP, the simply followed track through plantations. Much felling and replanting, but it's easy enough to make your way to the summit. I didn't bother crossing the last barbed wire fence as I was close enough to "bag it" in my book and to check out the nice views of Dartmoor to the NW.

A little harder to get to than it looked, although, as ever, the route back to the car was easier! I parked at the jctn S of Higher Bowden and scrambled over the fence due W of the trig. Had to circumnavigate the target field because it was full of cauliflower (or something), but in doing so discovered a gate in the SW corner which, after some nettle and bramble flattening, opened on to the Z-bend in the road. Western views to Dartmoor.

Accessed via the saddle N of Rough Tor which has a good track up from the CP to the NW. Many small animal tracks then led to the summit and I was pleasantly surprised by the relatively easy going via Maiden Tor over what I thought would be ankle-twisting tussocks. Not so. Not easy, but very manageable. Persistent and nagging so'westerly was at its strongest at the summit, which is impressive. Good views all round. Third County Top this Summer!

I tried the approach from Towednack Church, parking in its CP. Path started well but petered out several times as it reached shoulder-high bracken and gorse. So I drove around to a gateway on the B3306 to the E of the summit and met the farmer on his land who said try again in 6 weeks as the bracken and gorse were the worst he'd ever seen it....and he was worried about a new 2-strand fence he'd just erected. I got the message and gave up. On the way back I saw a pair of foxes in amongst the cows, sniffing at something. One of them shot off, the other boldly watched me as I walked by, not 30m away.

Got to give this one max score for the effort it took me to get there. Totally ignored previous advice read earlier that morning. Parked at the CP roughly 500m W and walked N along road to where vehicle tracks had made inroads into the bracken and gorse. I then stubbornly made far less effective inroads for the 45 minutes it took to cover the very short upslope to the the large boulder wall which I used gratefully as others had. I was pooped, knackered, ballbagged and ready for a beer. Route back was NW to the road junction following a horsemade path, then Sunday lunch at The Engine House didn't touch the sides! I hate this trig as much as I love it!

Good marks for views and Rogers Tower. I parked at Trenowin Farm (492350), which has a shop and therefore a car park. I followed the track NNW then up to the cottage at 488353. An old boy who lives there then sent me the long way around a couple of fields of cows, but at least there was a footpath (as marked on 1:50000)! Great views from the top - a most pleasing summit. I came down more directly, still avoiding the cows, still following paths and ending up at a gate that I'd suggested to the old duffer might take me to my destination. Ah well! Bought cheese and lemonade from farm shop, whose owners were most disconcerted that I'd "abandoned" the car there!!

Coming from Leswidden, skirt past Carn Glaze and follow track to the farm at 391296. There is a path directly up to the trig, roughly as marked on the 1:50000.

Sorry, but score reflects their anti-social behavior and soggy ground. Views pretty good though.

I parked in a deep gateway just south of Whitemoor Cottages and went through a couple of easy farm gates to access the field, which had sheep, cows and bulls in it! So with one eye on them and nothing but a 1:50000, I circumnavigated the relevant field. I definitely walked past it, but failed to spot it in brambles and gorse that have flourished since previous visits. Ah, well, at least I was there or thereabouts. Must get a decent GPS! Since found an old map that indicates I'd been here before, with a tick next to the trig. Can't remember that at all but am claiming it as found due to perseverance!!

I parked in the pub and walked through the nearest farm gate on the corner, around the buildings then straight up the hill. It was a stiff pull up a steep slope at the start of a day's trigging. No cows but plenty of sheep! Had a short conversation with the farmer on the way down who saw me on my phone, pulled up in his 4x4 and asked if I was alright, bless him. He had no probs with me bagging the trig and an easier climb for those more polite would be to follow the farm track around, allowing an opportunity to ask permission. Not bad views of the North coast.

Sadly the cloudbase was too low so no views (hence score). I waited 15 mins in the café as it looked like it might clear, but no luck, so headed off for North Barrule. Wind speed and temperature almost made me don waterproof!

Beaudesert failed to respond to the gate intercom so I did as others have - parked by roadside, hopped over fence, walked through field (easy going) and got close enough to appreciate its isolation in a nice garden. A trig that stands out like...like...well, like a trig on a big plinth in the middle of a grassy field. On this glorious afternoon I could see Haldon Belvedere which is 20 miles away. Don't know if it was the same bird, but there was a buzzard sat on it, just like at Fowelscombe half an hour earlier! Access is through an open gate along a track nicely photographed by Hollowing.

It was indeed a stiff little yomp up. I parked at the bottom of the track to the NW which was delightfully wet and muddy then turned right at the end and made my way up with no problems. The left hand route (which I came down) is only marginally better. The FB is on the wrong side of the summit fence, but that minor inconvenience is worth it for the views. Hollowing, what on earth were you doing up here in the dark on Xmas night???!!!

Yep, trickier than it looks. Thanks to 'Nr' for the tip. Park in the layby on the eastbound carriageway and enter the copse through the old gate on its NW corner. Make your way thro' it skirting the old quarry pool to the N then just plod thro' the heather and gorse. I flushed out the biggest dog fox I've ever seen on the way over and the views are worth it.

Bumped into the farmer's wife whilst lingering on her 800 metre long drive, who wanted to know (with a very nice smile) what on earth I was up to. Happy with my response she left me to photograph this uninspiring trig from my car - too wet to get out and bag the FB number!

There is about a 3" growth of ivy and bramble protecting this trig, which nestles in the shadow of the large green water (?) tank. Nice views, but too murky for a photo. had a pint in "The Crooked Spire" in Ermington, which is a nice enough village pub.

Hmmmm - well, after a dull walk in dull weather up the footpath from the SW, I reached the summit, complete with rusty old wheelbarrow bucket, and looked long and hard into all the nearby blackthorn/bramble bushes, but I couldn't see anything trig-like. I'm sure it's there, but with no GPS and only a 1:50,000, I was pushing my luck. Even with a GPS, you'll need a heavy-duty strimmer to reach this one!

A first log, and not surprising, 'cos this is a military firing range, but it's also part of the National Park and is open to the public if there are no red flags flying. I trudged up there on a damp afternoon on the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar and got thoroughly sodden! The TP is used as an orienteering station for exercising troops, so is well visited, and offers fine views.

I crossed a gate into the field, which was great for the views, especially of the cathedral in the sunshine, but not good for the trig. If you want to log the FB then stick to the path.

The trig sticks out into it at the end of what was once a longer hedge, on the customary large plinth - both are a little damaged (I assume by farm machinery). Pleasant country views to be had.

This was more of a struggle to reach than I'd anticipated. I parked in a layby to the S on the A38, crossed a fence and skirted a field full of swede, expecting the trig to be in the hedgeline on the high ground. It wasn't, so I followed a startled roe deer through a tiny gap in the hedge that was clearly its normal thoroughfare and crossed the next door field to find the trig in the opposite hedgerow. I didn't bother getting the FB, although facing NE it's accessible from the next field, through which I made my escape.

The field was also occupied by a lonely bullock who had clearly lost all his mates and was wandering around, mooing mournfully, trying to find them. he didn't like Widget much - the feeling was mutual. Don't know where "Butsons" comes from.

It's well disguised as a bush and there are reasonable views. Nearest pub is clearly in Brixton to the SW but I didn't check it out.

It is a sharp pull up from the farm. When you reach the crest, turn right and follow a small brambly path which leads you to the moss-covered trig after about 75m. No views from here, but Sidmouth looks inviting nestling in its valley from the edge of the wood. Nearest pub is 'The Red Lion' in Sidbury which, juxtaposed with the church, is a classic English scene.

How frustrating! I must have got close, but with only a Landranger and no GPS this one will take some finding. I crossed 'Mickandshane's sheepy field and even went down on my hands and knees in the unmarked plantation, which is infested with dangling brambles, to no avail. Widget might have found it as she disappeared for 10 minutes, but we'll never know! I made up for the miss by rescuing a bramble-entwined sheep on the way back. Nearest pub is the hotel at the end of the road but parking costs £2!

I asked permission in the fort and they were quite happy to let me take a couple of photos. Views of Plymouth and its harbour are fantastic - lovely sunny weather helped. Whitewashed TP is in great condition. Looks like an interesting golf course aswell - another one I'll have to sample.

Had to nip over a padlocked metal gate to reach this, after asking around local businesses in vain. Made my way up the old clifftop Cattedown Road, then clambered up onto small building to confirm FB number. Great views of Drake Island and Plymouth Sound, although the whole area smells of fish from the nearby processing plant. There's a pub at the bottom of old Cattedown Rd but rather you than me!

Glorious sunset though and I'll probably come back sometime soon, if only to play what looks like a good course. A point for Glaslyn - there are probably 2 million golfers in the world whilst there are around 500 registered trigpointers - who's strange?

A tricky one to find; it's only 10m from an unmarked track (on the OS LR) but is well camouflaged by ivy etc. Happily my search pattern (no GPS) worked, although I did phone home and ask my wife to read out the earlier log - not that it helped much! I came up from the Kilmington side and the track is extremely wet.

The OS Landranger spells the nearest farm as 'Clifthayne', so someone's got it wrong! Anyway, some reasonably good views of Devon & Somerset from nearby but the TP is on a bit of a plateau (in a cow field). A choice of nearby gates to park in. Nearest pub seems to be in Marsh but the A303 was closed so I couldn't get there.

If, of course, you just happened to stop on the B3192 about 200m down from the roundabout, then just entered the woodland heading East, you wouldn't know that it was "Private" would you? You then turn left (yes left) on a track that brings you to letterboard C (see photo). Turn right there and follow the track to letterboard D. Turn left and follow the track to the fork. Bear left and the TP is about 50m down on your left. These woods are used by Ashcombe Adventures for outdoor pursuits. There are now many tracks bearing no resemblance to the map, so take a GPS or follow my directions (although I got lucky after 30 mins of looking with just an OS Landranger) Whether the woods really are private or not is unknown but I'm sure if you asked at Higher Charlwood Farm (GR 915785) they'd be happy to give permission. I can't understand how 'Hollowing' can justify a score of 8/10 when he didn't get anywhere near the trig, but I've given it 7 for the effort (and risk!) required to find it!

Slightly damaged 2005-10-07 14:00 - TP1531 (Boringdon)

Walked up from the road to the W, up a muddy track which is part of the construction of a golf course for the nearby hotel. Widget disappeared in hot pursuit of a pheasant for about 5 minutes and I had visions of her being shot by an irate farmer. On her eventual return, we crossed the wall/bank to gain access to the FB. There are good views across to the airport and this spot would be a planespotter's paradise as it's on the flightpath - the photo shows a plane on its final approach. The TP has been whacked by a hedgetrimmer, as it seems often happens, but still stands intact, if a little overgrown and neglected.

This is a particularly satisfying trig. It's buried in the hedge so doesn't attract attention and the views from nearby are really quite stunning. You can see all the way to the Exe estuary and several other trig sites. A great spot. Nearest pub is the "Silverton Inn" which looks promising on the outside but was disappointingly commercial, with a wide screen showing soccer and only 1 real ale.

I liked this trig - for no other reason than it was an easy walk up from the road on a nice sunny day. it peeps above the hedge which has engulfed it in the shadow of a Crown Castle mast site. One corner has been lopped off by a hedge-trimmer which must have caused some expensive damage to the trimmer! Nearest pub is the Butterleigh Inn which looks interesting but I didn't go in.

The nearest pub (apart from those in Tiverton) is "The Trout" or "Fisherman's Cot" to the S in Bickleigh. Both are popular Sunday lunchtime pubs.

Phew! Earns the score for the effort to get there. It's a real scramble for the truly dedicated (and, dare I say it, nimble, although I'm a big bloke). Ask the fort manager (available through reception) first and he's quite happy for you to risk your neck to get on top of the gatehouse via a route on public land. The TP is well hidden by ivy and other foliage and the view is somewhat limited but it's a triumph to get there, involving a scramble up steep slopes, across and around barbed wire obstacles and over walls - a proper obstacle course!

I followed "Hollowing"'s advice and visited the old fort during opening hours.....in daylight! I spoke to a lady who'd worked there for 33 years and she said she'd never heard of nor seen a TP (I showed her a photo of what it should look like). The TP is not marked on the latest OS mapsheets so I doubt if it's still there, but to be sure I'll ring the owner/manager and arrange to go and check. If anyone wants to beat me to it the name is Mr A. Whiteway-Wilkinson and his number is 01752 775474.

The Fort was officially closed to the public when I arrived, but the gates were open so I just went to look for someone to ask permission. I quickly found her and as soon as I explained that what I wanted to do was akin to train spotting she smiled and said "Let yourself out when you're done"!

A quick stop to snap some piccies and away. Nearest pub is The Greyhound in Fenny Bridges, just the other side of a viaduct that the A30 used to cross, before the fast new one was built!

On a small hill just N of this small E Devon town. There is a gateway offering easy access from the bridlepath, but to see the FB you need to enter the field to the N of the hedge on which the TP sits. I didn't know this, and frankly, at the time I couldn't be a***d to go around, especially when the northern field was full of barley. I did try to get it by lying on top of the TP and leaning over, but gave up when I nearly fell off, which would have upset the dog. Anyway, quite nice views over Cullompton, and the nearest (unsampled) pub appears to be the "Weary Traveller", close to the motorway junction.

Nice, typical E Devon views. Nearest pub is the Five Bells (less than a mile down the road to the E), which looks lovely, but a thoroughly recommended gastronomic experience can be had at the Red Lion in Broadclyst, 5km to the SW.

This TP provides a magnificant panorama, from Exmouth to Taunton (or thereabaouts). It's a must, although the necessary fence-climbing is a trifle difficult. We were blessed, though, with a beautiful Indian summer's evening! "The Beer Engine" is not the nearest pub, but it's worth a visit, as it's a cracking location (in Newton St Cyres, to the NE, by the railway station) and serves its own beer (I had a pint of 'Piston'...mmmm!).

The path now follows the field boundary to the W of the TP, contrary to the 1993 OS Landranger Sheet 193, and you can't miss it, unless the barley (I think, not wheat!)is in its prime! Nice views of the Quantocks and Blackdowns. Loadsa walks round here, and the pub to make for is "The Anchor" in Hillfarrance, which has great food, superb ales (Branoc, Eden & Glastonbury FMB), and a friendly boxer dog.

I was using the 1993 version of OS Landranger 193 and I reckon the footpath has been moved about 150m E of where it's marked, so you need to cross a field, an electric fence, a barbed wire fence and go through a handy gap in the hedge to get there! TP is actually in a shallow bowl but has reasonable views of the Quantocks. Nearest pub is "The Swan" in Kingston to the NE, which does 6X, Bass and Sharp's Doom Bar....mmmm!

Didn't notice a plinth. Nearest pub is "The Nag's Head" at Ash Cross to the NE. Again, too early for a pint but I reckon there's scope for a variety of circular walks based fom there!

TP not marked on OS maps. The site, in the corner of an old park on high ground is totally overgrown with large brambles and I could see no evidence of an existing TP. I asked the owner of the nearest house (who'd been there 24 years) if he knew of its whereabouts and he said he'd never seen a TP there, even when the playing fields were in use. Nothing concrete (har, har!), but the evidence so far is that it's gone.

This is a nice TP set at the highest point of Exeter's Ludwell Valley Park. It takes 20 minutes to walk steadily up from Northbrook Golf Course on the Topsham Road, although there are a variety of access points and many footpaths. Views of Exeter from close by are very good and you can also look south down the Exe estuary to Exmouth and Dawlish Warren.

Left the family to wander around the village then legged it up from the CP. Awesome, stupendous views of Poole, Bournemouth & Dorset beyond, and to The Needles.

A superb early morning walk. Started from Pont Cyfyng at 0715 & reached summit by 0835 after steady slog up old mining track & demanding climb up scree-ridden E face. Magnificent panorama from trig as mist and clouds rose slowly away from neighbouring peaks. From here you can see them all! Descent via ridge, which would make an enjoyable route up.

Having read Barry Hunter's comments, I'll repeat what I wrote in my log at the time just for ironic interest.....: ..."This is a trig for the dedicated devotee.It is not a trig to attempt in the rain, burdened with 2 kids <11, an OAP, a reluctant wife and a geriatric dog! You’ll need yr hands & knees to scramble thro the low pine branches and some perseverance to locate the trig, which is impressively situated on a crag in a clearing.

Set off from Car Park at foot of Dam Road at 0915. Contoured round re-entrant from S end of dam wall to reach saddle S of summit. Good scramble over subsidiary peak & ridge to trig. Brilliant all round views from top, especially of Porthmadog & the estuary. Having reached peak at 1030, ran down in 30 mins to car - great walk!

I think this was my 14th time up here, but this one was special with Mum (63!) and her grand-daughter (8!) in tow. Ascent up Rhyd-Ddu path, with mist blocking spectacular views after 650m. Lunch on top amidst crowds of trainbound grockles clustering around the trig, some in flip-flops!

Having read more recent comments and been a member of this golf club for a while, I'd like to apologise if a fellow member was rude. That said, I was a 'pleb' when I first visited this TP and I thought golfers were snobs too! Fantastic views from this pillar (which is behind the 16th tee), particularly of Exmouth and the Exe estuary and if you're lucky, you can watch as the golfers slice their tee shots into the sea!

Second pillar visited with bemused family at the start of a few years-worth of trigpointing. There was no rapefield then and the TP was freshly whitewashed. It's now (24 Feb 2019) nearly 25 years later and the family is all grown up and I'm with a new partner who loves walking but shares the bemusement at this trig-bagging malarkey!
