Descended via the Clwydian way to the Chain Bridge Hotel and back to Whitewaters Hotel. Spectacular views on a blustery day but well worth the effort.

Parked in layby and up old lane which runs out into open fields. The poor old trig is not only between two sets of bw fences but has bw round him. I could not see the flush bracket and this is the only picture I good get. Together with brambles, this is one of the nastiest locations for a pillar and is very hazardous.

Walked from Deans via boggy path in places. The bridge was down at Corneyflat brook but able to cross further down. Could be problem after heavy rain. The path joins the drive down to Calva Hall but no one around. Started to cross "No Access over Packhorse bridge and got called back by a farm worker. After friendly chat, permission was given with directions. Follow wide tracks and over a barbed wire fence. The pillar sits between two bw fences. Strongly recommend asking for permission.

A grand day out! We crossed the ditch and up on to the bank. After chopping away some nettles, the top of the pillar was revealed which is level with the bank top. To read the flush bracket number meant dropping down off the pillar top, I think this might be a first. The pillar is well protected by the band and hopefully will stay this way. On leaving the pillar, we walked along the top and out on to the road at the far end. For future visitors, doing this in reverse would avoid the ditch and brambles. Thanks to What's the Point for organising bus times etc. for a most unusual trig trip.

Ascended from the car park at Minffordd and had reasonable weather apart from the very windy summit. Descended via a fairly well defined but unmarked on the map path. Last climbed around the mid seventies but don't recall a roof on the shed. Very hard on my knees on the descent but still a great walk. Very few people around today., Does anyone know when and why the flush bracket was removed?

Passed this one whilst out with my walking group, the East Staffordshire Ramblers and noticed it had been uplifted and placed upright by the gate. If I had been alone, I would have asked the farmer when it had been lifted, why and what , if anything he planned to do with it. Alas, the ramblers are not that interested in pillars so I was unable to make enquiries.

More low cloud, wind and drizzle up and down to the pillar. I followed the quad bike track as far as a gate and turned left along a fence, over fence and headed across the heather in the general direction of the pillar via a large cairn. I am sure this would have been easier in better visibility and I would have given a higher mark. On my return, I noticed a small footbridge on the right and a green lane marker. This may give better and shorter access to the pillar. Given the conditions, I saw no sign of a quad bike track to the pillar.

Drove to the farm and asked permission. The farmer's wife seemed a bit puzzled but let me explore. Although very near, it took a bit of finding. A lot of moss and the flush bracket is obscured by branches. I would have cleaned it up a bit but thought better due to being so close to the farmhouse. I was met by the lady on my return and showed her the photograph. Neither her husband and sister denied there was a pillar on site! I wonder what they thought when she told them?

Could do with a clean up.

Could not find a way up when heading west initially. Good views to round off a ramblers holiday with the East Staffordshire Ramblers and 16 trigs as a bonus to the walks. Note, only two of us are triggers and are regarded as slightly eccentric, so nothing new there!

Drove up the track to the farm. Asked for permission but no one around. Over a couple of fences and up the hill to the pillar. Very good views on the third of three successive beautiful days in Wales!

By keeping on this path, I arrived at the pillar. According to my gps, none of this path existed! Rewarded with very good views.

Got this one on a 12 mile walk from Denis Knoll near Stanage Edge with members of East Staffordshire Ramblers. Followed the footpath accompanied by barking hound who was on the other side of the fence. We stopped and had a chat with two ladies one of whom gave us direct instructions to the pillar. Neither of the two were indignant and were quite pleasant and chatty. On asking about the cemetery, I was told that it is now deconsecrated and there are no bodies remaining. There has been a lot of vandalism and the druggies have also been using it. She told me that the cemetery was built by a member of the Bright family and there is currently an ongoing court case regarding its future. On leaving the footpath, head east across scrub , bilberry bushes and through a broken down wall to the pillar. some traces of white paint remain and the views today were excellent.

The best point of access is right where the wall starts, you can get a leg up from the fence on to the wall. Fortunately, there were no water board workers around. It would be wise to check this out before attempting access.

Another year on, another Pershore Jazz Festival and another attempt. I visited on Friday August 16th and entered the field containing two very attentive horses. I walked along the lower edge of the field to and through a gate, up through a small wood and struggled over a wooden spikey fence onto the air field. I located the pillar after hacking away the brambles only to find myself on the "wrong" side of the pillar but managed to to get a photograph. On returning, I realised I had passed the pillar which was at the top of the field next to a disused ladder stile. I had been so distracted by the horses that I missed it and made a lot of unnecessary hard work for myself. I decided that on my return from Pershore that I would have another go and get more photographs by going up to the field top. The horses were even more attentive this time but I was succesful despite several tons of horseflesh breathing down my neck and nearly getting my rucksack eaten. A warning, if you are intimidated/afraid of horses, do not attempt this one. I parked at the entrance to Throckmorton Court.

Parked by green barrier and began a long search for the pillar as it was competely invisible in the hedgerow even with the correcct grid refence. I eventually found it with the help a pruning knife and managed to completely expose the front and top of the pillar. Pity I didn't take a "before" as well as an "after" photograpp.

Parked in Vicarage Road and followed this to a path round the edge of a corn field to the North of the pillar. I managed to find a gap in the dense hedge and over a barbed wire fence and straight up the hill to the pillar. This is not the best route and would be better accessed from the path to the South of the pillar. Again, excellent views on an increasingly hotter day.

Made a real meal of this one! Drove up Jubilee Avenue which is due south of Lower Shuckborough off the A425 and had to open and close four gates on the way up. I parked opposite the footpath which led directly to the pillar. Very good views but not much white paint left on the pillar. Oh, I also had to open and close the four gates on the way down, ho hum.

Parked off road on Clays Lane directly opposite the pillar. Over a rusty gate and head due East towards a telegraph pole on the skyline. This will bring you straight to the pillar. Sounds simple but there is a very steep ascent through the woods and lots of brambles. I wore gloves and used a pruning knife to get to the top. Once there, the pillar is a few yards away, offers superb all round views and well worth the effort. As a belated footnote, I also met the gamekeeper on my return who told me I was on private land. I explained why I was there and he seemed ok.

As noted previously, the pillar is not marked on my 1:50000 map card in my GPS either.

The footpath opposite the school now seems to be impassable despite the footpath sign and I was immediately met by a large horse. Unfortunately, there were no natives to ask about it.I walked up the bridleway/lane past Glebe farm and through a gate and down the field out of sight of the farm. Turn right through two gates at the bottom of the field keeping the wind turbines on your left and head North West. There are no paths but the ground was fairly dry at time of visit. When once spotted, the pillar is easily reached. This was quite a long trek and I would be interested if the next visitor can access the more direct path

Returned from Mallowdale Pike and sufficient time to bag this one as well.The pillar top is damaged and the spider has gone. The photograph was taken from the opening in the wind shelter. I returned to Jubilee Tower CP and would advise others taking this route that it can be very boggy as I found out on the descent and went in over both boots! Good job it was not on the way up but the walk is 10 miles and very rewarding.

He offered us a route which went through a field of cows and bull followed by several electric fences. After more conversation, he then let us through the farm and an uphill track led straight to the pillar. He referred to an earlier visitor who had asked permission but painted the pillar with white paint. He would have liked to have been informed before the job was done. The farmer is quite friendly but be prepared to have a long conversation.

Nothing has changed since the last visit! I asked at the house next to the field as to possible access to the field and was told to ask at Throckmorton Court. The owners strongly advised against this as the four horses are thoroughbreds amd quite feisty. Access from the road directly opposite the pillar's location proved impossible due to a combination of thick vegetation and two fences including one with barbed wire. I thought access was possible from the airfield but locked gates and high fencing led me to concede defeat. If I had gone into the field , the thought of being accosted by several tons of horseflesh made no sese as the owner had said a visitor to the farm had ended up with a broken pelvis whilst legitimately inspecting the horses. Good luck to the next visitor.

Total nightmare at this time of year as the field was full of waist-high oil seed rape which at least was dry and there appeared to be no tractor tracks at all. Definitely one pillar which required a lot of effort on a very hot day and not reccommended at this time of year especially having now seen photos at other times!

I asked at the tractor/haulage yard and was not only granted access but was actually escorted part of the way by a gentleman called Brian Dawson who knew exactly what I was looking for. I would reccommend future visitors to ask for him as he was very helpful. Not many pillars surrounded by three million pounds worth of agricultural machinery. The windmill tower is one of if not the oldest in Debyshire.

Many thanks to Sven who made this pillar very easy to find with very accurate directions. I have carried on with his clean up using secateurs and the photos show before and after. Some damage on the right hand top corner. I have managed to expose some of the spider but I think a scraper is needed to remonve the remaining roots and hard packed soil.

In view of previous visits, I thought I would try a new approach. Last one for today and hard work. I drove down the track to Alrescott farm and parked off the drive on a farm track. At the resevoir compound, I climbed over a wooden gate and down into the compound. Up a steep grass bank, over a fence and into a wood.Using GPS,eventually found a wooden fence to the right.Over this and into a mass of brambles. Eventually, with use of secateurs and gardening gloves (ESSENTIAL!),I found the pillar,which surprisingly was not covered in brambles. No view to speak of. Don't want any more like this one.

Parked by a gate on the road to east of the nursery and walked up the drive. The owner was sitting in his pickup and I explained what I was looking for which confused him somewhat. From previous visitors' photos, I found the pillar by the edge of the adjacent crop-filled field. It is indeed a sad site lying on its side although I did manage to photograph the flush bracket. I had a long conversation with the gentleman who seemed genuinely interested in trig point and he was completely unaware of the pillar although it borders the nursry grounds. For future visitors, it might be wise to try and contact the nursery owners before going into the fields as he went inside to let them know I was close by. Although it is school holidays, the nursery is still open. He seemed quite serious about uplifting the pillar, although it is in the farmers field and will let me know its possible future. Yet another spreading of the trigpointing gospel!

Parked in lay by near Oxen Fell. Took a path to High Arnside farm and a bridle way to a footpath. Took this path for a while then headed eastwards towards the summit. Hard going as there are no paths but well worth the effort. Tremendous views from the top and would have given 10 but for a little cloudiness. The NT plaque indicates this is Black Crag. On returning through High Arnside farm, the farmer informed me that if I had carried on the path, there is a path just at the edge of the wood leading to the pillar. This may have saved me some effort!

The pillar and beacon are well hidden on this approach and took a bit of finding.Very good views out over the estuary. I must have missed johnoneill1916 by about an hour.

Parked in the small car park at the entrance to the gliding club. No one about so hopped over the gate and followed the track up the airfield. A glider was winch-launched as I made my way to the pillar which can be seen from some distance. I met a very friendly gent who said access was not a problem as long as you do not stray on to the airfield. Leave the track and go through a small metal gate which leads to the pillar. The views were excellent on this warm sunny day although the distant Hope cement works did spoil it a bit. He informed me that the plaque on the pillar was to commemmorate the lives of two people who were killed when two gliders collided in 1999. There were a number of hang gliders around and a glider came in to land as I was returning to the car.

Parked at the end of Swingate and walked along the Robin Hood Way and on to the farm. Friendly farmer showed me a path up alongside the farmhouse where I was met by an assortment of small but excitable dogs who escorted me to the not immediately visible trig point. The trig is relatively clear of the surrounding assortment of bits and pieces. I noticed that outside the opposite building, there was a cage of ferrets which the farmer said were owned by his son. No geese today but as others have noted, not a place to hang around. Off to Awsworth now for an even odder trig!

Done on a strenuous walk from Birchen Clough with Mike Hunt of Mountain House Holidays. Would have given full marks but for the slight haze.Extremely dry conditions made bog trotting a lot easier.Returned via Bleaklow Stones, Bleaklow Head,The Wain Stones and the Hern Stones. Also took in the Superfortress wreck and close to the Higher Shelfstones trig again. The walk called Bleaklow Experience certainly lived up to the description. The photograph without people was taken on a return visit on 01/08/15 whilst on our High Peak weekend with the East Staffordshire ramblers.

Eventually managed to speak to the owner who was quite happy for me to pay a visit. The "attachment" visible on previous visits now sits alongside the trig on the ground. The owner runs a demolition business and the recovered object was merely placed on top of the trig. Good views for about 75% of the area. The windmill now has only one sail arm instead of two and looks a bit sad.

Took the route as advised by rbarlow but had a problem. Turned into Fourth Avenue (not Durth) but there is a gated property at the end with no public access. Spoke to a friendly local who offered to show me the way. We drove back to the A52, turned right and immediately right again before the traffic lights and took the second left,Cranford Road where you can park.Take the well used path until a stile is reached, turn left and over another one to the trig. If heading North East, there is a lay by on the right hand side just past Father Ted's grid reference for access. A small tree is the guide and there is even a "stile" stone for getting over the wall. Superb all round views, limited only by a slight haze. Done on a walk from Monsal Head on a glorious Spring day. I went over a small (padlocked) gate at the top of Cressbrook Dale at a junction with a bridlepath which heads due east towards Wardlow. At this point, the trig is not visible,but ascending south easterly up a short steady rise it appears quite spectacularly giving superb all round views. For the next 5 or so miles, we could see it upon the skyline. A well earned pint at the Monsal Head Hotel was the perfect ending to a cracking day.

Followed Trigger's instructions (thanks) but I asked at Skeath Farm. The very friendly farmer directed me round the back and over a gate to the trig and I obtained a photo of the flush bracket number. In conversation, he said he had not nicked it but had contacted the OS to see if they would part with it as it was something of an obstacle when farming. It has been on this site for at least ten years. This one completes all the pillars on map244.

I went to Quee Lane Farm and obtained permission from a friendly farm lady. Access was through several gates and very squelchy fields, boots were essential and wellies may have been the better option. One fence had to be climbed and the trig still has traces of white paint. The trig is rather tucked away and was not readily visible.I originally enquired at Oaktree Farm and was rather curtly informed there was no trig point despite showing him the OS map.It appears that Quee Lane Farm have bought some of their land and the trig now sits on Quee Lane farm property.

This is my second dead trig in the last two months. If this is a primary why is it listed as having an S? We remarked at the time of our visit on the absence of an S.

Took the approach by Mick and Shane but drove up the bridle path to a locked gate. I think the quarry workings may have changed a bit since their visit.I took the SW path then climbed over a gate and walked through the quarry, it was a Saturday afternoon, and headed for the mast. After a few wrong approaches I got to the buildings and climbed a plastic coated fence which had convenient concrete posts for getting over. Across a field, over a sheep fence and to the Trig Point. It was visible on the approach to the buildings. There were two workmen on site but if they did see me, I was not challenged.

The marked path alongside of Acton Trussell Farm is no longer present as stated by mickandshane. I parked just past (west) of the farm by a convenient gate. Over the gate straight up the field to another gate.Through this and keep to right of a pond to another gate.Through this and the TP is in the field. At time of visit,TP could only be seen by standing on the gate as the field was full of growing wheat. Keep to tractor tracks and you shouldn't damage much crop.

Did this as diversion on a walk from Rosthwaite to Grasmere. A bit boggy on the ascent but good views. The pillar is an assembly of cemented rocks.

This one was visited as part of a ranger led 3 trig challenge walk.Constructed in 1940, it is unusual in that it is not shown as a blue triangle on the os map. Although an OS built pillar, observations were never taken from it. This information was obtained from a handout,thanks to the Ranger. A highly reccommended walk if you see it advertised in the Peak District booklet. It certainly helps to have ranger leading the way! Grid reference and photos added on 02/08/14 whilst on our High Peak weekend with the East Staffs ramblers.

The second nearest to my home. Although not very high, extensive views and an informative plaque. The photographs were taken on New Years Eve 2012 after I walked from home. I have to agree about the lack of footpath signs, although the metal posts remain, the field was very muddy making it very difficult to follow the path in its early stages.I ended up walking round the field edges to avoid all the mud. The views are still good for a relatively low pillar. 8/10

A long slog.Rather murky at summit which spoilt the views. An interesting descent down Carl Side. The Grid Reference and photographs were added on a return visit on September 22nd 2013. The route went up Ullock Pike and Carl Side. The wee boy with his father was only 9 years old.

This is one I found whilst sorting out old photo albums and had not logged it as I was not a "triggie" in those days. The date of entry is 28/05/2013 . The views and weather were superb. This now makes a total of 400 pillars.
