From forest track entrance on A714. Sweltering trudge up followed by easy push through trees to gain the hill top. Summit area is clear apart from the immediate environs of the pillar where lots of small conifers are rapidly growing. Fortunately the S face of the trig is currently easy to access. Good view.

Parked part way along track at NX 3458 8132, really couldn't get the car any closer due to extremely poor state of said track. Pillar retains original centre cap, raised lettering. Constructed without a flush bracket. Extensive panoramic views.

P end of forest track at A714 to SW. Followed all the way up and behind summit to the end , then up through clearfell.

Track from SW driveable for 4X4 (not an A1) with parking @ NX342811 after which walkable only. One large fallen conifer to detour round. Leave track @ NX 34778 81165, for short climb in easily penetrable forest to trig in clearing

No problem with trees, leave forest track at highest point and then straight up between trees to clearing.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 20th July 1954 costing £15.10s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX29/2 within the Girvan block during 1955. Levelled for height value at top of pillar also in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in June 1985. SITE VISIT: Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. One sight hole open, facing ENE, ~62°.

vgc, metal cap, wide raised letters. Built without FB. In smallish clearing amidst fairly dense spruce, not easy to get at: push thru from highest point of forest road. Was glad of GPS but summit fairly well defined so probably do-able without one.

TP is in a small clearing surrounded by very unfriendly forest - the stuff of epics. Stick to forest paths for as long as possible and avoid direct approaches. Your reward is a trig built without flush bracket! Don't forget your GPS.
