Once found start of path in fairly easy compared to some we have been to in dense forest. As others have mentioned head up the forest track, when reach gate follow fence line to top of ridge and at the stone on the ground head in. Only a little pushing past branches needed as worst has been trimmed back. One side has been spray painted - see photo. Looked fairly recent and as not mentioned in last report on here guessing it was done some point after Sept 2019. Just 3p now on the top. No views.

Once on the track it was fairly easy, have put on a picture of start of track. Pillar in good condition with lots of moss. Metal plug. Added to the money by 2p. No Views

Despite previous dire warnings of being lost for 20 years, triggers have ensured it will remain accessible despite the attempts of the plantation to deny us access! There is a good little path through the conifers starting at SN 7075 8453 - would be a good idea if visitors took a pair of secateurs to do a little trimming to maintain the pathway. The pillar is in a good sized clearing; it retains the original top cap, indented lettering, where currently 66p resides; front and rear sight holes are open. No views.

My last Dyfed Mainland Pillar. From minor road NE on forest track. At fence line about 30m SE and then push through one line of trees. Open area in front. Walk for about 150m and then it is about 40m up through the dense trees to the pillar and it's open space.

The pillar stands in a clearing of light gorse within a forestry plantation on a hill to the east of Aberystwyth. There is easy parking where a forestry track meets the minor road to the south west. This was reached by means of a very pleasant drive on narrow roads from Ponterwyd. The forestry track was followed up the hillside to the edge of the forest. After following the fence for a short distance I then forced my way through the densely planted Christmas trees for several hundred feet before reaching the clearing where the trig was found. The trig is partly covered in moss; it has a metal cap with shallow lettering and has FB S5480. The view from ground level is largely obscured by the nearby trees. From the top of the trig a wide view opens out. The Dovey Estuary and Cardigan Bay are to the west. The misty outline of the distant hills of the Lleyn Peninsula and Snowdon could be seen to the north. The summit of Cadair Idris was prominent the other side of the Dovey valley. The large, rolling, grassy Cambrian Mountains were to the east and south with the distant Preseli Hills and North Pembrokeshire coast in the far south west. The forestry road and the nearby hill top fields also had good views. There are probably easier ways to access the trig. Less dense areas of trees were observed on my return to the forest edge and aerial pictures reveal large areas of clear ground which I missed.

Easy parking easy walk in. Final access from the North by the fence. returned direct west to track and far rougher under foot. Replanted now at christmas tree height so visits sooner will be easier than later. Linking note from here it is tempting to go via Salem and onto a minor road that links you to Bont Goch for Ffynnon Wared. Be warned the middle section has about five gates and an overgrown middle if your sump is low take the long way round via Penrhyncoch.
