The site is next to the replacement pillar close to a Grade II listed memorial monument to an 18th century horse on the downs to the west of Winchester. It was easily reached by paths from a car park for the nearby Country Park. There was a wide misty view over the surrounding down land.

Visiting the adjacent extant pillar, would be rude not to log this but no sign of it.
