Easy to spot 1" dia bolt in large granite slab, nothing really to reference it to, GPS useful as took us straight to it. Parked in large layby on minor road to S, gated access to heathland with handy track through the gorse and heather.

A 1” diameter round headed bolt is imbedded in a granite outcrop near the summit of Sancreed Beacon to the west of Penzance. The site was reached by a footpath up the hill from the layby opposite the nearby Sancreed Bernsten. The path was bordered by bracken and the small hill is littered with old mine workings. The rock in which the bolt is imbedded has several other similar sized holes nearby. The view to the south is across farmland to St Buryan and the Lamorna Valley leading down to the sea. In the east St Michael’s Mount could be seen in its bay with Cudden Point and the Lizard Peninsula in the distance. Castle-an-Dinas and Ding Dong Mine could be seen to the north. The hill top has remains of some ancient monuments and the site is within the West Penwith AONB.
