I'm particularly proud of my efforts to bag this one. Been planning it for ages, knowing I was working in Chelmsford. When it came time was tight, I'd been up since 4 but still drove deep into the Essex countryside in the fading October daylight. Went down the FP near the reddy/purple house near the fire station, nice short walk with country views. Pillar is in ok sort of condition, with slight damage to the top, cracking etc. Os cap intact. 18 hour day but mission accomplished

Left road at cricket ground and followed FP West right to pillar. Views over Thaxted and its windmill. En route from Cambridge YHA to Lee Valley YHA, with lunch in Thaxted.

Took f/p through arable fields from Thaxted. TP on edge of legume (?)field with cereal (wheat?) field to S. Original plug, but I would put this down as damaged- extensive crumbling of top and cracking elsewhere. FB somewhat hidden. Extensive views over Thaxted - which sits under the flight path to Stanstead - and some over-boisterous dogs; I wasn't entirely sure of the intentions of one of them.

Trigpoint sits by a footpath only a fairly short walk from Thaxted. Pillar looks as though it is crumbling away at the top.
