Track leads through forest for short distance before exiting onto more open ground. Gate in deer fence troublesome to unfasten - two people would be better! - thereafter cross the broad ridge covered in dead braken. Trig is seen ahead close to a pylon which spoils the views somewhat. Cumbria Fells visible to the south.

Parked to NE. Up forest track, through unlocked gate in deer fence, then freestyle across rough moor and scrub to pillar. Nce views

From the public road to NE (NX 6951 7262). Good track to unlocked deer gate (NX 6926 7239), then faint trods over tussocky grass. Pillar has commanding views to Lock Ken. Centre cap missing, composite disc plugs the tube; front sight hole open.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 26th July 1955 costing £27.0s.9d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NX56/DM/T4 by distomat survey methods during 1958. Levelled for height to Class 2 precision also in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in May 1988. SITE VISIT: Major head high fern fight most of the way. Pillar in good condition. Spider plugged with brown plaster. Flush bracket faces 55°, NE. Vented through sight hole on FB face.

vgc; resin plug; I noted FB as S8469 but it was prob S8462 as per 1993 OS.db. Left as unlogged pending confirmation. Nice little hill, a bit of vegetation on the way up...
