Visited whilst on BM hunt in the area, impressive building. Off to The Boot & Shoe at Hala now for a pint before buses home,bus stop conveniently outside pub.

Drove past for trigpointing purposes.Back in the 1970s we had to pass this building on our school cross country runs.The tower was built in 1883 when it known as the Lancashire County Asylum.

Grade II listed, 1872. Original a mental hospital, converted to apartments after closure in 2000. OS records both Bolt and Flagstaff destroyed August 1972 so unsure how this trig can be described as Good - despite the fine qualities of the tower!

Station SD47/T084, consisting of a flagstaff and bolt, computed to 4th order in 1953, and both destroyed in August 1972. The building and tower are visible from the M6.

An absolute monstrosity. An EX mental hospital, dating to 1816, with a tower that looks like a church. You can feel the religious overtones, as the patients were beaten and abused, probably in the name of God. Now been made into flats, with huge security. So quite difficult to get a good shot of the tower. The flagstaff is gone (1972), and the DB also shows a bolt, also shown as destroyed in 1972. Anyone buying a flat there will be wakend nightly by the screams and the rattling of chains
