Didn't waste much time on this, which is not even open on Saturday's and they won't even allow you to wonder around the island unless you have paid in advance online to visit and castle and grounds. Visited the castle and saw inside it around 10 years ago. Back then you could just walk across the causeway and pay on the door to get in. Now everything has to be done at their convenience. I imagine their income must be quite sharply down compared with previous years. Have they never heard of the concept of "passing trade"! The irony is, when we visited 10 years ago, we hadn't even intended to make a visit. We just happened to be in the area, noticed that the causeway was open at low tide and wouldn't have to take the boat, and went across. Pure chance, and as anybody in the retail and tourist trade will confirm, thats where a huge chunk of tourism income comes from. And who's stupid idea was it not to open on a Saturday, the busiest day of the week in the tourist calendar! Whoever's doing their marketing needs sacking! Walked across the causeway, took my photo, and left, keeping my £24 which I otherwise would have been happy to pay had they been open and providing a proper service. Their loss

The church and tower were only viewable from around the harbour as the castle and church are closed on Saturdays.

Centre; flagstaff on turret NE corner of church which is inside castle and at highpoint of island. bolt not investigated. boat over as tide high. then up to castle 1030 when opens. tump and trig tick. back 1130ish on foot when causeway open
