In Sutton Coldfield for the Commonwealth Games Triathlon. Plenty of time between the men's and ladies events to cycle up here. Found the missing slat in the fence and a slim cyclist had no problem getting through! At this time of year you can't see the pillar from outside the compound through the surrounding trees/hedge. Well worth the visit for the 360 views, though rather grey today.

I said that I was just checking that I wasnt going to end up on the Motorway! They were quite happy to point me in the right direction. I can tell that it is early in the cycling year as I could feel my legs moaning as i climbed up to the top of the Barr Beacon. Nice War Memorial that was built in 2014. There is a gap in the fence directly north of this that I could squeeze through. Quite windy up here. Trig is in good condition. I enjoyed whizzing down the hill after the visit. I then went along the canal network all the way back to the QE. Its a lovely Victorian side of Brum hidden under the motorway system and even the BT tower. I did get slower towards the end of this 27Mile ride, but it did feel a lot longer. Near the QE you climb up some steps from the canal path and you end up by the rail station. Short trip back to the Grove Park and glad to be back in the car and warm!

The best point of access is right where the wall starts, you can get a leg up from the fence on to the wall. Fortunately, there were no water board workers around.
