The road to Sothers Hill and on down to here is marked as a MoD road, no unauthorized vehicles, or words to that effect. Was stopped partway down by a RAF comms technician, but proceeded anyway. Site has 5 masts, all more recent than the one the OS used, which has gone.

After the escorted visit to Saxa Vord (TP5826) I was also escorted along the road leading to the Ward of Norwick. An enclosure here has a couple of small buildings and many smaller masts. The mast used by OS appears long gone, with no real sign from outside the fence that it ever existed. Co-ordinates indicate it once stood at the half-way point of the enclosure N-S and a quarter of the way from E-W. A short rail structure running N-S 2m above the ground was visible just north of the indicated position - it may have been used to carry cabling for the mast. [ UPDATE June 2013: Confirmation of the disapperance courtesy of http://ahistoryofrafsaxavord.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/radio-norwick.html - see photo 12 on this page for picture of original mast (tall, square open-framed and tapering) taken in 1996. This confirms my suspected location for the mast. ]
