Still a stunning place to be, glorious walk of strange little lanes and fields from Seahouses then on to the lighthouse with it's Eider ducks and back.

Grade I listed, 12thC castle. Ruined at time of acquition by Lord Crewe 1704, restored from then. Flagstaff today is on the W turret, OS sited to one on the E turret. Bolt, if extant will be on the S turret. there are a number of private apartments within the castle, this restricts access to top of the keep where the trigs are located. Thus, FS is destroyed and Bolt inaccessible. Adult entrance currently 10.75 - necessary to bag the tump.

present flagstaff approx in centre of keep hence apparently a replacement. gps says expected location is se corner of keep roof with bolt at sw corner. no access to roof to investigate further. old photos may shed light but didn't think to study them until afterwards. admission currently 10.50, the p30 summit my main reason for visiting.
