As I was staying at the hotel with work, it seemed churlish not to log the vane.

TP established 1947, and extant. The vane is clearly intact. Crewe Hall is a Jacobean mansion located near Crewe Green. Described by Nikolaus Pevsner as one of the two finest Jacobean houses in Cheshire, it is listed at grade I. Built in 161536 for Sir Randolph Crewe, it was one of the county's largest houses in the 17th century. Now a spar and hotel centre, as is the destiny of many such extravagances. To the side is the servants, grooms, stables block, where the underlings sweated and doffed their caps. Oh for the days when a servant could be flogged for cheeking his betters
