Parked near the beginning of the PROW in Townhead. I noted on the way out that there was a private road sign, ho hum. Followed the ROW to the field and boundary to the trig.

Caught train from Barrow in Furness to St Bees then walking coast to Whitehaven before catching train back. Trig point was a diversion from the coast path. Path from northeast was up slippery slope with brambles. Followed field boundary up to gate then doubled back to read flush bracket which faces south.

Parked next to a chemist shop. Walked passed a derelict site and up a very muddy hill to summit. Dog walking area. Wish people would pick up and bin rather than throw the poo bags randomly. Not a positive start if embarking on the C2C.

As others, parked near pharmacy in Kells. Walked alongside remains of Rhodia/Marchon/A&W chemical works (closed 2005) then up muddy track through wood. Trig sits on banking between two growing crops, easier ascent up edge of more southerly one at moment.

Not the greatest view in the world. Stroll across a recently ploughed field and through a gate tied up with barbed wire was less than welcoming. Had no idea it was supposed to be in a wood.

C2C#2: where's the wood? wonderfully sunny afternoon for walk up coast and easy access (if coming from SW coast path take upper path N of quarry). Views rather limited by haze, but the scheme to decontaminate the chemical works is interesting if you're into that kind of thing. W s/hole open, no cap or plug, otherwise vgc.

Diverted from the headland path crossing an arable field to pick up this trig, located on a raised field boundary. Looks to be in good condition; cap missing, no plug; 1 sight hole open. Good views E to Lakeland fells; S&W to sea - Isle of Man visible; N to Whitehaven - Dumfries & Galloway visible.

with son Jamie. The field of ryegrass to the east and north was swaying and rippling artistically in a dance with the gusting wind. It was quite mesmerically interesting to watch and listen to. I even video-ed it.

Parked in Sandwith and walked down the lane then footpath that goes through someones drive then field edge to trig. The Albright and Wilson chemical works mentioned in earlier logs has now gone and just the roads from the former plant remain. It looks very different o when I walked this section of coast ten years ago.

Parked near pharmacy off High Road and trudged through scenes of desolation - decaying empty chemical works and a dog walking area where nobody seems to clean up after Fido.At least trig is in a nice spot - no sign of a wood though

HISTORY: Pillar built in November 1949 costing £12.7s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY11/T2 in 1952. Levelled for height in 1965. Last maintained by the OS in December 1976. OS database has FB No. S5764 in error. SITE VISIT: Strangely named when there are no trees nearby. Mapped fence west of trig is no more, approached from east. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces south, ~172°. Vented through west sight hole. Parked in Sandwith, bagged in conjunction with Rottington.

We parked at Townhead and took the footpath north from there. Pleasant walk up through hay meadows with a scene of industrial dereliction on the right. Plug with heavily indented lettering.
