Loch Turret cp, along E side of loch then up S slope of A Chairidh on pleasant short grass. A bit boggy after all the rain. Up into mist to small cairn. E then SE descent and climb up Auchnafree, mainly easy going but tricky navigation in mist. S descent and track past Gilberts burn then E to non existent track, though areas had easier walking. To Choinneachain then narrow path NE round Blue Craigs and up Stonefield Hill. Some peat hags. Descent via interesting stepped cairn to track to just before Barvick Burn. Small path SE to track and easy path S to Barvick Trig. Same back to contouring track to cp. 25km, 800m climb. Finally mist cleared about 4:30pm.

Walked up from Crieff, first section along the A85 then through Monzievaird to pick up the Loch Turrett road before following the track crossing the Barvick Burn and a short slog through heather to the pillar. Rewarded with great views all round. Returned to Crieff via Craggans, Callander Wood (Lunch stop at the Ford on the Keltie Burn) and Culcrief Woods.

Had a great circular walk starting down at the Macrosty Park in Crieff then following the Lady Mary's Walk round to join the A.85 road to Comrie. From here I followed good tracks up to the Turret water works then headed above this to pick up the good track along to just north of the trig. All this effort was made worthwhile with some great views from the trig point over towards the Fife Lomonds, Ochils & along the Earn Valley towards Ben Vorlich. Trig point in a great condition and enjoyed resting beside it with a cup of tea in the sunshine.

To the Loch Turret Reservoir, where there is a carpark, today half filled with workers' vehicles for maintenance work is going on at the reservoir's dam. Fine two mile walk along trackways, before turning off from a northerly direction to cross about half-a-mile of heather. Pillar has its cap with stamped lettering, and one sight-hole open. Whilst stood at the pillar, I spotted a vehicle approaching from miles away. I sensed that it was heading my way. It was. A Wildlife Manager on a quad bike, all primed to give me a bollocking for walking across the heather during the nesting season. In my defence, I did follow a vehicle track (probably made by this very quad bike) and only 'heather-walked' a few yards from the top. I suppose we did manage a fairly civil conversation, but the altercation was unnecessary I felt.

First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed 6th November 1950 costing £20.0s.9d. Computed as tertiary station NO02/T10 in 1951. Levelled for height also in 1951. Last maintained by the OS in March 1981. SITE VISIT: Trig pillar in good condition, spider retained OS centre cap with stamped font. The farmer at Stonefield was not exactly welcoming. Approached me on a quad bike and exclaimed that he had recently stocked the area with partridges. I gave him the opportunity to suggest a suitable alternative route, which he did to my satisfaction. This was via an unmapped estate track running south/north to the west. Not the friendliest of exchanges, but he didn't strike me as one of life's happiest bunnies.
