Visited when returning from a week’s holiday on the Island. The church’s website (http://stmarysryde.org/) says “St. Mary's Catholic Parish, which was built and endowed by Elizabeth Georgina Burrell, Countess of Clare (1844-46), is one of the finest early Victorian Catholic churches in the south of England and one of the oldest in the Portsmouth Diocese. It was designed by Joseph Aloysius Hansom (of Hansom cab fame) … . The church steeple in the North West corner, house an eight bell carillon (chime) cast at Ville Deu Bell Foundry at Normandy, France, plus a large Angelus bell, cast at the famous Whitechapel Foundry in London”. I assume it’s the steeple that forms the intersection station.
