The Church of St Mary Magdalene is sited in the centre of the village of Ditcheat, to the north of Castle Cary. The fine parish church has 12th century origins and is a Grade I listed building. A flagstaff still stands proud on top of the central tower. Ditcheat House, a Grade II* listed 17th century manor house is adjacent to the north. Ditcheat Hill rises to the north continuing into Pennard Hill to the northwest. The other buildings of the village are to the south and west. Children could be heard playing in a nearby school. There is a cut bench mark near the south corner of the building.
