Fine visit to St Laurence's Church. Much of interest within, and outside over the north door is a sheila-na-gig (suddenly I had that PJ Harvey song screaming in my head!) - only the second one I've seen (the other at Kilpeck). Amazing that these pagan symbols of fertility survived within Christian churches. Then we sat in the garden of the Buck's Head supping our coffee whilst enjoying views of the tower complete with poor St Laurence upon his grid-iron.

Had been up on top of the Long Mynd enjoying the extensive views over toward Wales, so we nipped down into Church Stretton to pick thin one up.

The Grade I listed Church of St Laurence stands on the western fringe of the town centre. It has a prominent cut bench mark on its west face. An interesting church in a pleasant town with a couple of pubs nearby.

St Laurence's Church. Grade I listed. Nave 12thC, transepts 13thC, chancel and upper part of tower 15thC - a work in progress over many centuries. Various restorations: 3 in Victorian era, 1932 and 2010. OS only lists vane as the trig, not flagstaff. Prominent cut benchmark to RHD side W door.

Quick visit, in between trains. Flagstaff and vane; nice building. Sign stating the town to be Shropshire's first walker-friendly town but seem to recall Craven Arms claiming the same. The station platform provides a monument with Latitude and Longitude position for lost travellers.
