Fabulous weather, long views. Nice substantial looking stone built pillar. I would have scored it higher but it was a bit disconcerting to have walked for 6 miles with no sign of civilisation and then to be faced with the big pipe laying operation in Glen Bruar just near to the bothy. Lots of people and vehicles and excavations.

My Munro #168 climbed alone. A significant 'bag' for me - this was the first trip where I'd gone out and wild camped. The evening before I'd cycled from Bridge of Tilt to the Forest Lodge at 933742 with full pack & tent on my back, left the bike locked up then climbed Carn a' Chlamain and headed NW as twilight fell and pitched my brand new tent for the first time by Loch Mhairc. Following day up early and bagged Beinn Dearg via its (I'm assuming) not often used NE ridge, returned to tent and packed up camp then bagged the two Munros of Carn an Fhidhleir and An Sgarsoch, before a long walk back along the River Tilt to where I'd left the bike. On a John Muir work party some weeks earlier I'd been going on about the badly eroded path up Carn Laith (TP1963) and a wiser head than mine observed the hills would be better off "if people walked them like goats rather than like sheep" - i.e. find your own route, don't stick to the same path as everyone else. I was totally bitten by the wild camping bug, loved being 'a goat' and not a sheep - wherever possible it's been a philosophy I'd tried to adhere to ever since...
