Bikepacking trip, riding the beaches. Parked up on the north ridge for a quick ascent before exploring the machair to the west. Wartime ruins and a big view towards Barra.

From end of the metalled road to the N, parking by the cattle grid. Ground a bit rough, but nothing too challenging. Pillar sits amongst disused WWII buildings and paraphernalia, centre cap missing, no plug; rear sight hole open, LHS plug disintergrating. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked to early, should have continued on minor road until cattle grid. Brisk walk up to pillar and ruined concrete building (observation bunker?). Again stunning 360' views :-)

HISTORY: Pillar completed 29th June 1958 costing 29.13s.1d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NM52/8 within the Mull block during 1960. Levelled for height also in 1960. Last maintained by the OS in May 1969. SITE VISIT: Approached from north. Parked by south side of road just west of cattle grid where yellow infill ends on map, NL948469. Direct route to top via worn path. Be aware of compass measurements on this hill. There is an error of approximately 90 over the pillar and by walking around the summit, the needle fluctuates with errors of over 90 per pace, two different compasses were consistent with these errors. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces east ~82. Vented through west sight hole. Full 360 panorama when standing on the pillar to overtop the adjacent wartime buildings. View includes Barra, South Uist, Skye, Mull and Dutchman's Cap.

Argyllshire. We parked at Andrew's Crafts and followed the old concrete path and steps up to the old military hut and adjacent trig pillar. Despite it being overcast it was a good viewpoint. Plug missing.
