AKA Hardy Monument (built 1844 to honour Admiral Hardy of Kiss Me Hardy fame, not Thomas). Well worth climbing the 121 steps to enjoy the panoramic view from the top on a clear day, particularly of Portland (but in the care of the NT so take your card if you have one).

Mist so thick we actually drove past it!! Parked down by the Blackdown parking and took a few paths before it loomed out of the mist! Quite an entrance!!

I first came here as a boy in the 70's on a family holiday - great place with amazing views - there is a charge for parking here - not sure if it's official of just some Hippies being enterprising!! - i didn't pay! - Impressive monument to Thomas Hardy - amazing views all around.

Visited the Hardy Monument in July 2012 while walking from Sturminster Newton, Dorset to South Brent, Devon. Didn't know it was a trigpoint. Great views to Chesil Beach and Portland.

Station PP046 consisting of the centre and a bolt (destroyed - see TP7971). The centre is also recorded as an old trig and was computed in 1944 to 3rd order and maintained in 1979. The Hardy Monument was the end of a branch levelling line from the Exeter to Southampton First Primary Levelling (1GL) line of 1849/50. My visit to the monument was to find the mark from this levelling, but I couldn't find it, being presumably lost in restoration work.
