Climbed from car park by Loch from the North. Recent dry weather meant easy going. Superb viewpoint in all directions. Vanessa in good condition. Was really a Marilyn bag but so worthwhile.

Weather horrendous. Couldn't see the superquarry. Came off the east ridge. Exciting. About 50 m near vertical knife edge, with north side banked out with snow. Had to use the ridge as a handrail & kick steps.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 25th May 1959 costing 9.7s.10d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NM52/14 within the Mull block during 1960. Levelled for height also in 1960. Last maintained by the OS in August 1982. SITE VISIT: Parked beside estate road by loch side at NM841528. Circuituous route via Sgurr A` Bhuic then along top edge of quarry with a fina approach from the southeast. Vanessa (cylindrical pillar) in good condition. Spider centre open, cap theft was very recent as brass is still shiny, thread greased and Allen screws lying on pillar top. Flush bracket faces eastwards, ~79. Vented through south and west sight boles, pillar bolt photographed. Full 360 panoramic view. Descended NW to Bealach a' Coire Bhin, turning eastwards into the valley, following Allt a' Coire Bhin back to the mapped path network.

a lot of slog over moor to avoid the inhospitable policies. also missed one of the SMC great ridge walks as a result. Quarrying activity noticeable both visible and audible. Pity.

Badly weathered SW side incl a crack to this vanessa. Would give a higher score were it not for the monsterous building clearly visible to the SE. On venturing further E along the main ridge the full extent of the gross disfigurement to the SE side becomes apparent. The quarry operators have even provided a view indicator panel directly above their monstrosity ,no doubt aided by some public funds or other as part of their environmental commitment ( or is it disaster ) . Previously visited this hill 19/05/99 & 23/06/03.
