Fabulous day, with the church looking great. Existing flagstaff is central, but who knows where it was at the triangulation. If the OS give a 'centre' mark, and a flagstaff, you can work out one from the other. But they don't in this case. Also the bolt is 'destroyed' - it was about 1 metre from the flagstaff. Probably had the roof redone

Completed 1497 in the Perpendicular style and replacing an earlier church, probably Saxon. St Mary's, a Grade I listed bldg, houses the most complete set of mediaeval stained glass windows in the country. OS database records 2 trigs for this church - bolt and flagstaff, both destroyed June 1978. Presumably the current flagstaff is a replacement. Cut benchmark can be found on E face.
