HISTORY: Pillar completed 7th October 1957 costing 126.14s.9d. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision, tertiary standards during 1958. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NG24/T56 in 1959. Last maintainedby the OS in April 1978. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from SSE. Parked in wide forest entrance at NG305504. Followed track to firebreeak at NG302514. Climb firebreak until out on open hill, route tough at start but gets easier. Belline route across open hill over tussocks and deep heather to top. Open grazinbg hill. Pillar has chipped apex, front right, trunk otherwise good. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Flush bracket faces southwest, compass measurement 238. Vented through front and back sight holes, left hole breaking open. An alternative possible route would be to approach from the south using the eastbound layby at the road summit. Full 360 panoramic view includes Beinn Bhreac, North Uist, Harris, Cuillin ridge, Rum, Canna, Ben Horneval, MacLeod's Tables.

sunny end to day. staggering how much easier walking the terrain is on the ridge on this southern half of the Waternish peninsula compared to the purgatory of the hours and a quarter of spongy tussocky energy sapping nightmare on the northern end off the ridge.

I walked up from road. It is very heavy going as the heather and moss are deep and lumpy. The view is great although it was hazy. I could see the outer isles and the Cuillins.

Parked by the Fairy Bridge then had horrible slog through deep heather to pillar .. Good views but bloody hard work ..
