The Common is owned by the National Trust - can be seen from adjacent surface block on the common.

Originally named Fort George, this folly built around 1764; rebuilt 1864. Presume bolt would have been on tower roof, OS records it destroyed December 1964.

Viewed the tower where the bolt would have been from just beside the gateway from Rodborough Common into the private Rodborough Fort. Have taken it as read that the bolt was - according to OS - destroyed in 1964. Nice views westwards of Doverow Hill and the River Severn beyond. Photos to follow...
