HISTORY: Pillar completed 27th April 1957 costing £64.9s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NG24/38 within the Skye block during 1957. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision, tertiary standards in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in April 1978. SITE VISIT: Approached from SSE. Parked in layover by old quarry entrance at NG260601. A quad track leads straight up from old quarry, although the track fades away, the near beeline route to the summit is easy by Skye standards. Pillar stands SW of junction of fences, open grazing top. Column badly damaged, the flush bracket has been stolen by a lowlife type on site with tools. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces SSE, compass measurement 150°. All sight holes open, pillar bolt viewable horizontally and vertically. Full 360° paroramic view includes Glamaig, Blaven, Bruach Na Frithe, An Cruachan, Ben Horneval, Skridan, Askival, Beinn Nan Dubh, Orval (Rhum), Beinn Bhreac, Healaval Beg, Waterstein Head, Dunvegan Head, Beinn Mhor, Eaval, North Lee, Roneval Harris, An Coileach, Beinn Dhubh, Tirga More, Ceann Reamhar, Gillaval Glas, Clisham, Toddun, Feirihisval, Suidh A Mhinn, Quirang, Beinn Edra, Storr, Bealach, Dun Caan, Ben Tianavaig, Beinn Na Greine.

Hardest 1km ever, spoke to nearby home owner who said we could park and go through his garden to a gate. He said 'it's a tough walk' and he wasn't joking, Mrs TJR nearly gave up as it was 3 steps forward and the number going up on the GPS instead of down! After an age Mr TJR came back for me and escorted me to the trigpoint. A very sad trig it is too, whoever took the flush bracket did it most unceremoniously and left an awful mess! Went back via the Argo cat track to the school and Mr TJR went back the same way we came up and drove round for me.
