A mere 19 years after my previous visit I finally managed to return, not by the Ptarmigan as planned but as part of my walk along the Watershed of Scotland. Again I had the hill to myself but this time this was due to the poor weather rather than the hour ( I was much later than my first, eartly morning visit). I didn't hang around at the trig as it was wet, windy and with no views. I noted the damage to the base of the pillar .I also cleared the top of the Trig which had a very sorry, dead bunch of flowers on it weighed down with a load of stones. I then descended a slippy Ptarmigan Ridge until the Watershed continued North and I parted company with the normal route down which turned west towards Loch Lomond.

Another retrospective log. Fortunately found the image on my phone. Fond memories and seems like yesterday as logging this in March 2024. A friend and I were walking the West Highland Way and after a long walk this day he had announced had never completed a Munro, At around 4pm we started the ascent and asked the canteen at Rowardennan YHS to keep a meal for us as they closed at 8pm. We got to the summit just before 6pm. Lots of people descending but none at the top. It took longer to descend and arrived back at base hungry at 8.10pm in the dark. Fortunately the kind staff had kept a meal for us. A memorable day. Damage is at the base.

Log #201, Munro #3. Left Glasgow at 5:30am in order to avoid the crowds and have the summit to myself. Didn't take enough change with me, so had to use my card to pay the £3(!) parking. Somehow I missed the start of the tourist path (didn't realise it started on the other side of the toilets/tourist info building), and ended up using the forestry track to the south, rejoining the main path a little further up the hill. Pretty straightforward trek up the hill, following the tourist path through the grazing cows and to the halfway well. Rested a little bit, and watched the cloud slowly roll upwards, across Sron Aonaich. There were no views from this point on, as I was stuck in the cloud all the way to Sithean. Ascending the steps onto the summit ridge wasn't made any more difficult by the poor visibility though, and I was up towards the top. I ascended the first summit, mainly just to enjoy a little scramble amongst the boulders. A slight descent, then it was onto the true summit at 974m. I had the summit to myself for about 2 minutes, before hearing a couple ascending from the Ptarmigan. I chatted awhile, then I sat on the edge over Leac na Cailliche and just enjoyed the solitude (and the ravens). The couple (a Finn and an Englishwoman) left, so I grabbed a few photos of the trig and surrounding summit, before starting the descent. The pillar is showing some significant wear, with a huge chunk out of the front-left corner and the end of one of the spider legs exposed. I had planned to descend via the Ptarmigan, but the couple had struggled a bit apparently, and I wasn't keen on a scrambly descent in such poor visibility. Back down the tourist path then, and I met a fair few folk on the way - some in shorts and t-shirts. Despite multiple layers, I was feeling the chill a bit, so they must have been making a furious pace in order to keep warm. The descent was quick and fairly uneventful until I reached the halfway well and looked down towards Rowardennan... there must have been 50 people at least on their way up the hill. It was quite slow going from this point, as I was constantly having to stop and left people past, including a cyclist who looked to have biked across Moin Eich. Had an interesting stand-off with a cow who had decided to park herself on the path. I stepped off to the side and motioned for the cow to pass, receiving nothing but a hearty moo for my efforts, leaving a group of ascending girls in hysterics. "And who says manners are dead?" asked one, between giggles. Not much more to mention - 13km round trip, in almost exactly 5 hours, including my time on the summit. Very enjoyable morning, but I'd love my next Munro to have some views! [ExP-161/MiP-6/Rev-2/BM-12/IS-17/Other-3]

Last visited around this date, my third summit. Fourth will be this summer. A fantastic walk up through woodland and then onto open hillside. A few steep areas but the biggest obstruction I've faced was a cow who was intent on lying down on the path! Views at the summit are superb in all directions.
