Had to clear sand from bottom of the hole. Cold and very windy so didn't hang about.

Nice view across the valley. Bolt found thanks to CJO's persistence. No sign of the original. A rivet in appearance but a bolt by virtue of its location?

SE22 T091 BOLT. Reported destroyed 5/79 replaced 01/06/84. Both reportedly at the same location but changing from 4th order to 3rd order. On arrival at the site we were rewarded with a great views from a suprisingly rural spot looking down the length of the valley as the sun started to set. A flat-topped rock outcrop had two areas of white paint which we suspected were the two locations of the bolt (past and present) the larger white area to the east had a witness rivet on the edge of the crag but no sign of a bolt. The white paint ~3m to the west had a tuft of grass growing in its middle. We removed the grass and excavated the hole as it appeared to have paint on its sides. Eventually after much furtling we found a small bolt at the bottom bedded in concrete. Has to be the bag of the day for its uniqueness - we've found quite a lot of buried brassy stuff now, but not anything set into the bottom of a c. 6" diameter and 6" deep hole in a rocky outcrop!

Gilstead pointing at witness rivet, with obvious white paint in front (location of destroyed bolt? although coordinates from OS are only a few CM different). Actual current bolt location is in front of the open notebook.
