From Inverlochlarig, straight up Stob Coire an Lochain, Stob Binnein, Ben More, back over to Stob Coire an Lochain, peaks in the mist. On bearing E, but soon below cloud to lovely day. Over very craggy ground with path becoming more intermittent & faint as we headed over Creag a Bhragit, Meall na Dige, Stob Bealach na Frithe to Stob Creagach. Steep in places & awkward Crags. Return SW below na Frithe & contoured Meall na Dige to reach SE ridge. Narrow path to Meall Monachyle but petered out on descent. SW down long grass, climbed deer fence into thigh deep grass through new forestry, with deep holes. Awful but short. Reached wall running E to W. Crossed it & turned W on rough track that ran to fence & turned S vaguely to gate near cattle grid at 460192. Great walk, but final descent needs some work! 21km, 1800m ascent, 8.5 hrs, 7 moving.

Log #358. Munros #4 and #5, and my 250th surviving trig pillar. Left Glasgow before 6, parked at NN42026 to set off around 7:30. Easy walk along the road to trailhead just east of Benmore Farm, then followed track up the zigzags and through the gate. I saw someone ahead of me so cut off the path and up the hillside roughly where he had (before the corry). Tough slog up grassy slope, pausing often. Cloud level was around 400m, so views were quickly lost aside from some quick glimpses over Crianlarich. Found the well-worn route not long before the dyke, and it was fairly straight-forward to follow that to the top, aside from a rocky section where you need to take it slow and keep scanning about for the track. Pillar is on a rocky ledge, surrounded on two sides by a fairly deep wee gully (quite hard to explain), and looking quite precarious. The base seems to be being eaten away by frost, so it wouldn't surprise me if a few bad winters claimed this pillar. Quick stop for a snack and some photos, then headed south to the bealach, avoiding the second scramble by skirting east around it. Cloud cleared very briefly at the bealach for some limited views of the Braes and the Allt Coire Chaorach. Another straight-forward, well-trodden route up Stob Binnein and had my lunch at the summit cairn. On my way back down to the bealach, the cloud started to lift, and by the time I was heading west down the glen there were some great views on offer - too many hills to mention. The way down to the bealach was tough going, and pretty soggy - ended up on my bum three or four times, losing my lens cap and snapping a walking pole in the process. More cracking views along the glen, then along the well-defined track, picking up speed and admiring the view back up Ben More. I had a look for both the FBM and berntsen on the way back to the car. 7hrs 13mins, 13.2km, with around 1300m of ascent - VERY tough going. Legs and back will suffer for a few days, but it's always worth it. [ExP-250/MiP-32/Rev-2/BM-23/IS-34/Other-17]

Pillar has some very minor chipping to one of the top edges but otherwise in very good condition considering the battering it must get; asphalt plug; all sight holes filled. Concrete plinth seems to be eroding badly but comparing it now to the 1987 photo below it seems it will last a while longer before being in danger of toppling. Our 17th Munro - slow going when it's only 1 visit north of the border each year.
