Spent 10 mins probing the ground on the way to Hoods Monument and a round of a couple of tumps. Ground very hard and not able to penetrate more than 4-5". No cows today.

I walked across the field, but didn't see the block. Thankfully no cows in this field today.

ST83 T061 BLOCK. In a grass field with scattered pine trees. An unusaul position on the slope with no obvious points for the survey team to relocate the survey station. installed in 06/1952. in 06/1974 a buried block was instaled some 150 to the SE, presumably because the block was not findable or because it offered better sight lines?

The site of the trig is on the lower slope of the western edge of a low, narrow ridge to the south of Street. The site was reached mostly by footpaths from the Youth Hostel on Ivy Thorn Hill to the west. A detour was taken through an empty field to reach the site. There was no sign of the trig on the surface. The view from the site is hindered by nearby trees. Brent Knoll can be seen across the Somerset Levels to the north-west. Between the trees some low, flat farmland and some distant higher hills can be seen to the south-west. The hill rises up to a covered reservoir to the south-east. The hill is within the East Polden Grasslands SSSI noted for its rare butterflies which apparently live a little further along the ridge.

Brisboy & I spent a while walking the area including in amongst the trees and round the reservoir. Did not carry out any excavations and spotted nothing.
