Church of St Nicholas, Bathampton. Lovely Grade II listed church, dating back to the 13th century. All good with the flagstaff. Did not investigate the bolt. There is no CBM on the church, but there is one just down the road on the north east face of the railway bridge south west parapet

The Church of St Nicholas lies to the north of the village of Bathampton in the Avon Valley to the east of Bath. The church still has a flagstaff but the roof of the tower could not be accessed; a school’s carol service was imminent so I did not enter the building. The Kennet and Avon canal is nearby to the south and the railway is to the north. There is ample parking for the George Inn across the road. The church yard was accessed directly from Mill Lane. The wooded top of Bathampton Down can be seen to the south; the top of Little Solsbury Hill to the north and the pub is across the road to the west. The Grade II* listed church has 13th-century origins with 15th-century alterations and tower. There is a memorial to the first governor of New South Wales in the church.
