One of ten such squat block shaped primary pillars built without flush brackets in 1936 for the measurement of the Lossiemouth Base. The base was originally established as a base in 1909. It was measured again using these then new squat untapered pillars in 1938 under the direction of Major Hotine. Bennachie is part of the extension to the base. Seven of these pillars received flush brackets in in the 110** series during 1963, but this was not one of them. This trig pillar at the summit of Mither Tap on Bennachie in Aberdeenshire was never to receive a flush bracket. Pillar in very good condition, spider retains an OS cap with raised font. Fantastic views and well worth a visit despite there being no number to record. Visited and photographed 14/08/2002, GRP.
