Easy trig point, near the transmitter towers with work in progress installing new tower. The pillar was just through gate and thankfully it was bone dry, can see why it could be a mud bath though. In good condition nicely painted like all the ones on Arran seem to be.

After an at times wild looking walk in the woods at the back to Kilmory - chambered cairn, a definite N Yorks moor feel to the place until you see beautiful Aisla Craig and the encircling (nearly) coasts. This is a quick roadside grab - be careful of the encircling ordure!

HISTORY: Pillar completed 5th March 1956 costing £26.1s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS04/T17 in 1956. Levelled for height also in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in June 2001. SITE VISIT: Parked by north side of public road just east of access track at NR983213. The approach track is NOT suitable for driving cars on. Kilbride Hill. So near and yet so far. Surrounded in knee deep (on cattle) slurry, needed to use loose stones and boulders to construct a hard standing podium for photography. White painted pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces east, ~98°. Vented through north sight hole. 270° panoramic view, north east quarter blocked by nearby woods.

A very easy bag up a dirt track next to a small power station (?). Once again the person with the white gloss has been out and about. Although they wipe clean the tribrach the grooves under the tribrach tie hooks are filled in with paint; just as well no-one needs to tie down their theodolites any more. Grass white and flush bracket over painted with gloss. I think it's nice that someone cares to paint them, but a tad more care would not go amiss - and please stop painting the brass flush brackets!

Easiest pillar on the island to bag along an access track to a covered reservoir approx 300m from the island's perimeter road. Have to say it's in good condition, but with its flaking coat of dirty white paint it looks very shabby against most of the pillars on Arran. The pillar sits in a muddy area but access can be gained from other side of the fence so no need to tramp through the mud to get close to it. 1 sight hole open, original cap in place; FB painted black.
