Log #348. My first ever "first find"! Parked at East Bay, walked along the harbour front to the end of the Mallaig Beag road ("No Parking"). Followed track towards Mallaig Mhor, then picked the path of most resistance up a waterfall (the second one you reach). Steep ~30-35m ascent on slippy rocks and moss using helpful heathery handholds. After that, just kept heading up, over boggy ground and wet heather and reeds until reaching the cairn at the top of Cruach Mhalaig. The bolt is in a rock around 30m NE of the cairn. Not too hard to find. Descended SW via 162m spot, then followed unmaintained track W to join up with circular track at NM685971. Said track leads towards Loch Nostarie. Instead of following mapped track back to the village, headed straight on at the crossroads to take in the ~110m hill and get some photos of Mallaig and the harbour. Back down to car via mapped circular track, got fish and chips and ate them on the pier. Recommended route would be to follow circular walk until crossroads, head east on Nostarie path, then NE up hillside to cairn - means you don't have to scramble up from north.
